According to a CBSSports report, Fred Jackson had a one-year deal in place with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March, just after the Bills had traded for Eagles RB LeSean McCoy. He had gotten permission to speak with teams, and the two top teams for Jackson were the Steelers and the Patriots, who both had scheduled visits. However, the deal only fell through because Bills GM Doug Whaley informed him that he would not be released, stating they had plans for him in 2015. As we all know, he was eventually released in the final round of cuts in preseason, which ended up being a shock to everyone involved with the organization (and now we know why).
This is simply an interesting "what if" scenario, which is why I put this thread in the team specific room instead of the regular NFL Discussion. If Jackson had been signed, the rhetoric might have played out differently in training camp. We wouldn't have signed DeAngelo Williams (who ended up having 127 Yards Rushing against the Patriots Week 1), and Fred Jackson, who has an extensive history playing against the Patriots, would have been our starting Running Back instead of playing second fiddle to Marshawn Lynch in Seattle.

Well, no one will ever know how F-Jax would have fared the past 2 weeks, nor what his role would have been once Bell returned. IDK what you mean by 'starting RB'. For 2 whole weeks? Does seem like the Bills screwed him though. To cut him like that after other teams already had all their plans in place. I mean how could they not know what they had in him after so many years? A leader, well-liked by all, consistent, work ethic, and he can catch. Lemme call nateball89 in here.

It's entirely possible they had every intention of keeping him. But the young dude outplayed their expectations and so they let him go.

Hmmm...I'd never heard of that. I know that Freddie was PISSED at Whaley when he was released because he said he had been dishonest with him, but I didn't know about this or that his anger pertained to this. Makes sense now. HOURS after he got cut, he got phone calls from Seattle and New England. Seattle put him on a plane the day he got cut and signed him. New England called him and said they'd see him in a few days. Jackson said he didn't want to play for New England because of their high turnover rate of personnel and didn't want to sign a contract with a team if he wasn't even assured to be part of that team's plans going forward, or something like that. I'm sure Seattle's interest in him had a lot to do with Marshawn pulling for him. Freddie and he had a great relationship in Buffalo, as Freddie has had with virtually everybody he's ever played with or been coached by. Sucks though, because Seattle only uses him as a third down blocking back, and he'll never get any touches because they never take Marshawn out, he's an every down back. All said, of all the Bills jerseys over the years that I've collected and then a year later that player is on a different team, Jackson's white Bills jersey is one I'll wear with pride for as long as it holds together in the wash, and still probably after that when the numbers need to be stitched back on.

Karlos Williams in the 5th round, who's been doing...nothing best I can tell?

The decision to release Freddie was mind boggling, and then in the first game against Indy, they handed the ball off to Williams for the first time and he took it to the house. He runs fast and with vision and he's elusive. He already has two touchdowns this season. He's going to make a great backup for Shady.

Suspension is probably just a matter of time. Rexy better start paying more mind to Shady, lest he becomes disgruntled. It was not right what they did to Freddy, a loyal veteran, who never raised a fuss about anything. But as I've said before, he landed in a great place. Old friend, very mild winters, all that cheap fresh salmon. I'll always miss that.

And they're not a group of guys adept at blocking for a shifty guy who can create in space. That's why Spiller didn't have a lot of success here either. We got a defense, cool. We got a good group of receivers, cool. We need better offensive linemen.

Eagles are already a lost cause IMO, and the defense is nothing tow rite home about either. Isn't our buddy Incognito doing a good job?

Incognito is surpassing expectations so far. One of the only bright spots on our line. He was rated as one of the top left guards on some sports website, can't remember which one.
