I was damn excited this off-season with the addition of Rex Ryan(well, it took me a while to come around to that one), the addition of LeSean McCoy, even though it meant saying goodbye to Kiko Alonso, the addition of guys like Percy Harvin, Richie Incognito, Charles Clay, and Jerome Felton. Hell, we even got an offensive coordinator that runs a pro scheme as opposed to our last two coaches who ran college offenses and produced weak offensive lines.
This past week has proven that football is a business first for the Bills. I've always understood that about the NFL, but some of the personnel decisions just haven't sat well with me. Cutting Fred Jackson for literally no reason. There is no logic to this move. He could have been Shady's backup, and the duo could have been dynamic. The Bills are trying but failing to deny that GM Doug Whaley went "rogue" and was just playing God.
Matt Cassell got beat in camp and preseason by two QBs - Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel. Manuel even posted a perfect passer rating against Pittsburgh, and no, it wasn't just one series. As much as I've hated EJ in the past, I really wanted to see what he could do in an actual pro scheme and not a bullshit college scheme which severely handicapped him. He looked great in Roman's scheme. After rightfully cutting Cassell, the Bills bring him back a few days later and immediately place him above Manuel on the depth chart. There goes EJ's career.
I wanted the Bills to keep WR Andre Davis who had a great preseason. He was an undrafted rookie who saw plenty of time because all of the Bills starters were nursing injuries. Chris Hogan struggles with injuries, and this training camp and preseason has struggled with drops. Marquise Goodwin is a walking injury waiting to happen. He's not worth the roster spot. Yes, he's dynamic and can get behind safeties with ease, but he's also injured for seemingly half of every season. Both those guys made the team and Davis was cut.
For all the good this team has done, I'm kind of mad at Rex and Whaley right now. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, and yes, all will be forgiven, but it still sucks.
