Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers Strong Safety has announced his retirement late Thursday night in an interview with steelcityinsider's Jim Wessel. The realization came to him during church this week which is the Holy Week of the Greek Orthodox Faith.
"It's all about family," said Polamalu in a phone interview. "I live here in Pittsburgh now, and since the end of the season I've had a chance to enjoy my family on a level I never had before. It was awesome."
Polamalu is a more-than-likely 1st Ballot Hall of Famer after 12 seasons in the NFL in which he made 8 Pro Bowls and 4 1st Team All Pro appearances.
This Steelers fan thanks Troy for all the wonderful memories of watching his flowing mane flying across the field. We will miss you Troy.

I believe him when he says its about not moving his family. I have to imagine there's a market for him if he wanted to keep going.

Look who's breaking this story: Not Schefter or Twitter or B/R or NFL.com, it's the local paper! Fuck yea go print!
Edit: The Pittsburgh Herald Standard. I've never read it lol. The website's pretty crappy but hey, they got that story.

Great player, great career, I think this is the right choice for him. All the best in retirement, I look forward to seeing what you look like when your hair turns grey!

TP was just great. He is a day older than me, and I got to see him dominate my friend in the 99'(TP and our senior year) wrestling state championships. He went to little Douglas High here in Winston Oregon. He pinned my buddy in first round with ease. 178 lb class. He was so nice though...gave my buddy a hug and was just all class. Love ya Troy. First ballot no doubt.

At lest Polamalu retired with the team that drafted him unlike Dawk and Reed . And while Dawkins was fantastic, he didn't make the sort of jaw dropping plays that Troy made. Dawkins can be batman, but Troy is superman. But Dawkins is still human

If you want to do a comparison where one is better than the other try like, Troy is Spiderman, and Dawkins is like Hawkeye. Or if you wanna stay in DC, Troy is like the Green Lantern, and Dawkins is like the Green Arrow. Batman is the most ridiculously over powered superhero in the world, as even without any powers he still some how constantly fights and wins against foes way stronger than himself, and God do I love him.. Sorry, nerd moment

And if it were 3 yrs ago and the concussion scare wasn't so rampant and TP wasn't so injury prone, he'd be playing in Oakland or Dallas right now.
