Boy oh boy is that story messed up. I'm sure some medically impossible excuse is going to get trolled out like: he slipped and fell trying to run away and that severed his spine. I have no evidence to say they beat the shit out of him, but how does a spine get dislodged from a dude's body in anything other than a murder? It just seems like that case is a slam dunk for the prosecution, especially if the feds get involved.

www.civilrightsteaching.org/Handouts/UnderstandingSelf-Defense.pdfEvery black man with a gun these days gets treated like he's about to shoot up a school. Eric Harris is a prime example. He owns a gun and he's running away from the police. In America today, that's an excuse to kill. That was basically the defense given by his legal council. That's what got this from murder in the 1st to a charge of second degree manslaughter, that and the fact that wearing blue comes with invincibility from a charge like murder. The only thing shocking to me about the Harris case is that the cop ever went to trial. In 99.9% of cases, there is no trial and the cop gets a paid vacation. You're right, video is why he's behind bars.

Man the situation in Baltimore is getting crazy now. There have been more or less peaceful protests all week, but following the Freddie Gray funeral there were serious riots where places were looted and set on fire, and police officers are being attacked. The Bloods, Crips and Black Guerrilla Family are all teaming up to spark violent riots. I don't ever agree with violent riots, but what do they expect? A black man gets arrested for possessin of a switch blade and within 30 minutes of his arrest he gets his spine 80% severed while in police custody? That is fucked up and serious questions need to be asked... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Freddie_Gray

People need to understand that gangs who organize riots aren't breaking their own shit. They're breaking the white man's shit. That's the message. Oppress black people and they're not going to lie down and take it. They shouldn't. Fuck the police and do what you need to. Nonviolence is a sieve towards suppressing liberation of blacks to keep the elite in control. If burning down a building helps achieve the goals of free Americans airing their grievances in the only way they can, then I'm all for violent rioting and looting at every level when it achieves something. Break shit, send a message, change things. This is what happens when you take away the ballot box.

"Where was the peace when we were getting shot? Where's the peace when we were getting laid out? Where is the peace when we are in the back of ambulances? Where is the peace then? They don't want to call for peace then. But you know when people really want peace? When the white people have to get out of bed, when cops have to wear riot gear, when the cops start talking about, oh we got broken arms. Then they want peace," he said. "Peace? It's too late for peace." - unnamed protestor
I have a lot of respect for NPR for getting on the ground in Baltimore and quoting those involved. They told the stories of people victimized by rioting and by racism, but they also acknowledge that people aren't "trashing their own place" like CNN so egregiously put it. They're trashing white property. They're trashing the city that has oppressed them.
"Maze said she understands the anger. For far too long, she said, police have been killing black men. She says Baltimore had this coming. All the violence, she says, might finally change things.
'I see no shame in being violent to be heard,' she said. 'Because if you can't do it peacefully than what other option do you have.'"

Funny you should post that. "It is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard." - MLK

MLK made the right strategic call advocating nonviolence. It reflected faith that the moderate wing of the movement would be rewarded for showing faith in the American political system. Today, the oppressed cannot choose to trust the system and embrace nonviolence. Peace was called for first by African Americans, and white America ignored them. Now white America is calling for peace. They too shall be ignored.
