Alrighty, it is again that time of year where I get bored enough to start making mock draft So here it is Jins first bordem mock!
As always at this point in the season, I don't know anywhere near enough about the prospects, so I use CBSsports for my player rankings.
21/01/15
1. TB - Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon - And with the #1 pick in the 2015 NFL draft, the Buccaneers select! Marcus Mariota. Why Mariota over Winston you ask? Well this is purely a personal opinion on the two players. I don't trust that Winston has grown up enough yet, you give a young man who has had a some personal troubles instant stardom and millions of dollars and what do you get? I take Mariota who I think is equally as skilled, and who doesn't have the issues.
2. TEN - Leonard Willians, DT/DE, SoCal – Tennessee's defense this year was pretty bad. They were second last in the run game and middle of the pack in pass defense, they need some upgrades. They take the best player in the draft and walk away knowing their run and pass defense should improve. With Casey and Williams on the line, the Titans start to look very formidable.
3. JAC – Brandon Shreff, OT, Iowa – Jacksonville was last in the league in protecting their QB, giving up a league high 71 sacks. They need to do something before Bortles gets shell shocked, hopefully Shreff can right the ship on that front. I feel as though this might be a little bit of a reach and there are other good OT's available in the first round. Trading down would be a very good option for the Jags, I am however not predicting trades just yet.
4. OAK – Randy Gregory, Nebraska – Oakland came in 2nd last in the league this past season with a dismal 22 sacks. Lamar Woodley is a bust of a free agent and has seen his best years pass, and Justin Tuck has never really been a sack specialist. They need someone who can get to the QB, Gregory fits the bill, and with him and Kalil Mack on defense they begin to turn the Raiders into a defense to be feared.
5. WAS – Shane Ray, DE/OLB, Missouri - Brian Orakpo sadly can't stay healthy and is in his contract year. It doesn't sound as though he will be back next season, so the Skins grab Shane Ray to take his place.
6. NYJ – Jameis Winston, QB, Florida St – And the Jets have their new QB. I feel as though the Jets won't be too worried about taking a QB who has some potential issues. He is a great fit for a team that has everything but a QB. As a Miami fan, this would make me sad as if Winston has grown past his issues he will likely turn the Jets into playoff contenders.
7. CHI – Landon Collins, S, Alabama – I don't think this is even a question, if Collins is on the board the Bears will take him. They need a starting calibre NFL safety badly, and Collins is just that. This should go a long way to getting back to the old bears defense.
8. ATL – Dante Fowler Jr., OLB/DE, Florida – Falcons tied the Raiders for second last in the league in sacks. They need good pass rushers, so they grab the best pass rusher on the board and walk away hopeful. I could see the Falcons trading up with the Jags and grabbing Gregory, based on history they have no problem with trading up for players they want.
9. NYG – Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford – With the top pass rushers off the board and no LB's worth taking at this point in the draft, the Giants go with their other big need and take an O-lineman. Peat will likely play at RT, moving Pugh inside, at least until Beatty moves on from the Giants.
10. STL – TJ Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh – The Rams have definite needs on the O-line. RG Davin Joseph is set to be a free agent, as was is their RT Joseph Barksdale, and Jake Long can't seem to stay healthy. They Grab Clemmings and play him at RT for now.
11. MIN – Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama – If Cooper falls to the Vikings is there any question as to who they take?
12. CLE – Danny Shelton, DT, Washington – Shelton is the best player left on the board and happens to fill a need at NT for Cleveland. The Browns were brutal against the run, Shelton should help shore up that part of their defense.
13. NO - Vic Beasley, OLB/DE, Clemson – The Saints are in need of a pass rusher opposite of Junior Gallette, they could also use a CB but I think Beasley is the better value here. A good pass rush also can make up for having weak corners.
14. MIA – Kevin White, WR, West Virginia – Right now it is sounding as if Mike Wallace will be leaving one way or another, this Leaves a gaping hole at WR, but it also leaves room for something Miami needs desperately, a big redzone threat! Kevin White fits the mold we are looking for, a big physical receiver.
15. SF – DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville – Crabtree has been a huge dissapointment, Boldin is getting old, and Lloyd and Stevie Johnson aren't really used. WR looks to be one of San Frans bigger needs, so they take Parker and move on.
16. HOU – Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma – I honestly didn't know who to mock here, Houstons biggest need by far is at QB, but I think Hundley would be quite a reach here. So Houston goes with a WR. Andre Johnson is reaching the end of his career they will be looking for his replacement.
17. SD – La'El Collins, OT, LSU – Chargers need help on the O-line, so they take the top guy available.
18. KC – Jaleen Strong, WR, Arizona St – Chiefs need help at WR, outside of Bowe, who hasn't been very good at all as of late, they really don't have anyone. Strong gives them a big upgrade at receiver.
19. CLE – Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi St – They need an upgrade next to Karlos Dansby.
20. PHI – Tray Waynes, CB, Michigan St – Best player available that fits a need.
21. CIN – Alvin Dupree, DE, Kentucky – The Bengals were last in the sack race this season, they need to get better.
22. PIT – Marcus Peters, CB , Washington – Cortez Allen sucks, Ike Taylor is past his prime, they really need help at CB.
23. DET – Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State – This is assuming Suh leaves in FA. If not I'd probably take the best CB available, as Rasheen Mathis isn't going to last forever.
24. ARI - Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia – Andre Ellington is a great speed back, I think Arizona could use a good power back to compliment him. Even with his injury I think Gurley is more than good enough to be a first round pick and seeing as how they were 2nd last in the league in rushing I say the Cards take him.
25. CAR – Erek Flowers, OT, Miami – The Panthers really need line help, they are bad and they need to protect Newton.
26. BAL - Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon – With Ngata getting older and dealing with some injuries they could be looking for his replacement.
27. DAL – Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE, UCLA – First off, how do you pass up a name like this? Seriously, it is alliteration, and improunoucabilty at its finest! I hope this guy ends up on Miami purely so I can get a jersey with his name on it!
28. DEN - Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington – BPA who fits a need. Denver has a lot of big free agents this year, and they are going to need to fill some wholes. Both Brandon Marshall and Nate Irving are FA's and I doubt they are able to resign them. So they bring in Thompson to fill the void.
29. IND – Melvin Gordan, RB, Wisconsin – Indy really needs a good RB to take some heat off of Luck. Bradshaw is good, but he is injury prone and not reliable to be there the whole season. Richardson sucks and should be outright cut, and Herron just doesn't strike me as a guy who can carry the load. Gordan had a great year and I think will be a good fit for the Colts.
30. GB – Malcom Brown, DT, Texas – BJ Raji is a FA, so the Pack grabs a cheaper replacement, who may even be an upgrade.
31. NE – Sammy Coates, WR, Auburn – I hate mocking for NE, I honestly have no idea what they are going to do. They really don't have any glaring needs so they are able generally to take the BPA. That would be either Sammy Coates or Cameron Erving. I figured between the two of them Coates fits more of a need that Erving does, as Lafell is pretty mediocre and every other receiving threat they have is either a SB, RB or TE. So I figure maybe for once they will use a first round pick on a WR..
32. SEA – Devin Funchess, WR, Michigan – Another team with very few glaring needs. The one glaring need they do have is at WR where they are held together with duct tape, glue and some popsicle sticks. Funchess is an upgrade at the position and gives Wilson a nice big target to throw at.
As always at this point in the season, I don't know anywhere near enough about the prospects, so I use CBSsports for my player rankings.
