Long story short - my lower back is in screaming pain - to the point where sometimes I'm crying myself to sleep because the pain is so bad. My doctor prescribed me muscle relaxers and pain meds - the dosage of which could probably kill Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Jr. combined. SO, if you don't want to see the non-sensical ramblings of someone who's fucked up on pharmaceutical grade narcotics, then move along, nothing to see here. I realize that for some of you, this thread will be like "Really? This idiot is analyzing jersey colors?"...yes goddamnit, I am.
This thread actually came to me whilst watching Arizona play Carolina in their ugly all red uni's. Got me thinking about NFL uniforms and how some are good, some are bad, and some are just...meh. I'm not a fashion designer, and the NFL should be more about grown men beating the shit out of each other than the pageantry of vivid and bright colored skin tight uniforms. Regardless, different colors help identify teams more clearly, making them stand out from each other, and in the past two decades, jersey sales have increased merchandise revenue for the league and it's teams exponentially. Teams recreate and "rebrand" their uniforms with their fans in mind, taking into consideration jersey sales and fan interest.
Here's MY take on all 32 team's uni's:
Pittsburgh Steelers - Imho, black and yellow(NOT gold), is one of the coolest color combinations in all of sports...just...why only a logo on one side of the helmet Pittsburgh? Also, the alternate black and yellow 1940's prison uniforms are hideous.
Cincinnati Bengals - I was a huge fan of their upgraded uni's in the early/mid 2000's, just not the six different uniform combinations they use. They almost never wear the same uniform color combination twice in a row. This would be cool:
Baltimore Ravens Love the Ravens logo, but can I be the ten billionth person to say the Ravens' purple on black doesn't make any aesthetic sense? Dark on dark is ugly enough. On camera, it just flat out looks bad. They should just permanently switch to their alternate black jerseys. Those actually look good with their helmets.
Cleveland Browns - I've always been a huge fan of the Browns' minimalistic look. No logo. Just "Here we are bitches!" Brown being my favorite color, I LOVE the brown on orange. Also, their minimalist away uni's are the shit. No flair, no pizzazz, just all business. They're getting new uniforms in the next couple months.
Buffalo Bills - Obviously I'm biased, but I love the Bills blue and white. I just don't like the blue pants.
New England Patriots - Cool uni's.
Miami Dolphins - Terrible shade of aqua. I HATE the ugly and foreboding stripe in the middle of their helmet. Their new effeminate "upgraded" logo is finally growing on me, but I hate the change from the teal facemasks to the white ones. It looks crappy.
New York Jets - One of my absolute favorite uni's in the NFL. LOVE the retro 70's look. It looks modern though. Don't like the green pants though, for home or away.
Indianapolis Colts - Classic look.
Houston Texans - Love their logo, hate the navy jerseys against the navy helmet. They should wear their alternate red jerseys permanently.
Jacksonville Jaguars - Their uni's have finally grown on me, but there's no excuse for those helmets, and there never will be. There's an easy fix for those, however. Either go all black or all gold. Problem solved.
Tennessee Titans - Remember The Titans. More like Blame The Titans, lol. The Titans started it all. In the late 90's, the Titans' multi-colored uniform design was revolutionary and different from all the single color traditional uni's that the rest of the league were wearing. Their "irreverent" uniforms were back then what Jacksonville's uni's are today. Funny how every team back then that thumbed their noses at the irreverence and audacity shown by the Titans' crazy, "off the wall" uniforms, would later jump in line to try and emulate Tennessee's look and even try to outdo them in an attempt to try and modernize their team's image to their fans.
Denver Broncos - Orange crush is cool. They shouldn't wear anything but that.
San Diego Chargers - Ffs, please just wear the powder blues permanently. I'm not a fan of the navy jerseys with the white helmet. The powder blues just look so much better.
Oakland Raiders - Classic look.
Kansas City Chiefs - Love the logo, love the dark red, but I've wished for some time now that the Chiefs would do to their uni's what the Vikings did to theirs' in the early/mid 2000's: add a large white stripe down the side of the jersey, and accentuate the secondary yellow color by adding vertical stripes at the shoulder.
Green Bay Packers - Classic look.
Chicago Bears - Classic look, even though I've always thought the bland "C" on their helmet was very lazy and minimalistic, but hey, one team in the NFL doesn't even HAVE a logo.
Detroit Lions - Nice look.
Minnesota Vikings - One of the Nike upgrades I actually like. I just wish they would have stuck with a gloss helmet instead of matte.
New York Giants - Great uniforms. LOVE the away uni's.
Dallas Cowboys - Classic look.
Philadelphia Eagles - I'm not a huge fan of their hunter green. It's too dark and doesn't translate well on TV. It would be cool to see them use either silver or matte gray pants like the Giants.
Washington Redskins - Everyone's upset over the Redskin's name. Not me. I love the name "Redskins." What I can't stand are their uniforms. Never liked 'em. Don't like the maroon red, the logo, or the yellow pants. They're due for a Nike upgrade.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Dear God those new uni's are bad. The only good thing about them is the chrome facemask. Shoulda just kept the old uni's and put the chrome facemask on the existing helmet.
Atlanta Falcons - Cool uni's.
Carolina Panthers - Cool uni's.
New Orleans Saints - Cool uni's, except I don't like the black pants with the away uni's. Just doesn't make aesthetic sense. Should just stick to gold on white on gold.
Seattle Seahawks - The best Nike uni's so far. I especially like the grey pants for the away uniforms.
San Francisco 49ers - The only thing I'd change about the 9er's uni's is I'd switch the pants back to gold as opposed to matte tan.
St. Louis Rams - They have so many different uniform combinations it's confusing. My favorite era for them was the early 2000's when they switched to the navy and gold helmets, navy and gold jerseys, and gold pants. I wish they'd wear those again.
Arizona Cardinals - I actually like the Cardinals look, I just can't stand their generic cardinal logo. Thousands of pop warner, JV, high school, college, and pro teams in all sports use that logo. It's a very generic and recognizable logo. They need a new one.
