But you do have the ability to turn down the volume or hit the mute button. Noise pollution laws vary in each state, but I do not think loud commercials fall under these laws. That is sheep speak. I don't wanna nor should I have to reach for my remote every few minutes to mute and AGAIN a few minutes later to once again hear it. It's more of what I have to do than it is to my going deaf by decibels, how could you not get that? You might not wanna wake the spouse, the kids, or possibly the neighbors if you life in an apartment like me. Thankfully my unit is almost totally private and quiet. EDIT: @jeffb2865 - Just boycotting a product you and most others may not ever entertain purchasing in the 1st place is not a remedy to a daily assault/annoyance/inconvenience of this kind. Where do you draw the line?!? It should be ZERO volume increase, and zero tolerance. Huge fines. I really dont feel sorry for people who are too lazy too hit a button on a remote. There are some regulations on this, but no it does not fall under noise pollution.

LOL...Beverly...first off, where did you and Craig learn the term sheep and since when have you started using it. I thought I was the only one who knew the term. LOL.
But It is not sheep speak. Its coming to terms with reality. Reality says there isnt a damn thing you are gonna do about it since we believe in free enterprise. No...me boycotting isnt going to do no damn good, but Im at peace with doing my part. And once more....you do have control. Remote, but control.
You have absolutely NO control over a whole bunch of bullshit in this country. LOL
One More thing....I do agree with you. There should be a law against it. Good luck with that.

If you didn't get it then, you never will. Not everyone wants a death grip on the remote, fingers on the trigger every time the programming changes to and from commercial. Don't recall Craig mentioning sheep. But recall a helluva lot about sacrificial lambs (will have nightmares now lol). Might not be a lot we can do about the volume thing NOW, but I DO think there's a lot we can do other than to just accept it and lower the volume. It's wrong because of the degree of intrusiveness. And like I asked before, where do you draw the line??? It's a matter of enough people getting pissed enough, ya know 'We're mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore', and this should be an easy enough and desirable (by the masses) thing for politicians to get behind.

Noise pollution has been mentioned multiple times in this thread, my post was in response to a post about noise pollution. So yeah someone did say something about noise pollution. Pretty easy to hit the mute button if it really bothers you.

Pretty easy to hit the mute button if it really bothers you. This is why it's pointless to argue with you. You said first it wasn't noise pollution. When I said no one said anything about noise pollution, I obviously meant myself. Then you come back and say it was mentioned several times, when you know damn well that wasn't what was meant. Not gonna keep explaining why it is wrong to put the burden on the masses to have the death grip on the remote, having to adjust the volume 40 times over the course of a football game. It's not a once in a while thing. Easy for YOU to hit the remote, people like you are why they can keep getting away with more and more. It would probably have to reach the point of deafening levels before you'd fight to return to levels worse than the current state. IDK if all stations do this. Most do to some extent, maybe 10% decibel increase. But some raise it 25 - 40%. Should be outlawed. Again, where do you draw the line? I say 0%. On principle alone.

Pointless to argue with me because you said something complete different than what you meant? You posted "no one" that is significantly different from "myself". It is impossible to tell what you actually meant on the internet. As I have said multiple times in this thread there are laws against it, and stations are not allowed to do what you are saying. You can file a complaint with the fcc if a particular one bothers you. But seriously you dont want to argue with me because I didnt understand you meant something completely different than what you said? That is ridiculous, but ok...

I LOVE my 65" Vizio, but one are where it falls short is it has this function called SRS True Sound, and what that function is supposed to do is equalize the sound automatically--for example--loud commercials. It doesn't do that.

As I have said multiple times in this thread there are laws against it, and stations are not allowed to do what you are saying. You can file a complaint with the fcc if a particular one bothers you. What you said was that it may violate a CALM law and "Noise pollution laws vary in each state, but I do not think loud commercials fall under these laws." You've mentioned twice about 'a particular one [commercial] that bothers me'. AGAIN, no razor or cereal company is allowed to set their volume. Don't you get that much, that the station does it? In fact, I'd be surprised if the % of volume increase is not how they market airtime for commercials. I'm not here to define 'noise pollution' and what falls under it under existing law. Don't care! Create a 'law' or 'act' that it does fall under. So, what laws are in place as far as "stations are not allowed to do what you are saying"? Cuz they are indeed doing it and have been for many years. If there are laws, they're not enforced, or a slap on the wrist, nominal fine equivalent of couch change. Don't get me wrong, this is not something I think or talk about or wanna start a crusade for. Bigger problems in the world. But still feel very strongly that there should be a zero allowance on increased decibels. It's an intrusion, a nuisance, and a CONSTANT inconvenience for an entire population. And of no purpose for the common good. Put me up there with ram29jackson, but it is a method of force-feeding your consciousness, like better it be negative than not at all. Hey, this could get a lot better now, eh.

The problem is, the vast majority may be irked by it occasionally, but no one will actually do anything about it. If you really care, file a complaint. Drop in the bucket, won't accomplish what you want, but for anything to happen people need to do it.

Might be the kind of thing a petition would work well for. Thanks.
