According to multiple sources, the Pittsburgh Steelers are making resigning QB Ben Roethlisberger their highest priority in the offseason. His deal is reportedly going to be worth at least $20 Million per season. Ben Roethlisberger is set to become a Free Agent after the 2015-2016 season.

*le sigh* I don't disagree with Ben being paid like a top notch QB at all he has more than earned that this past many seasons. Just once though, I would really like to see a player just say "Pay me $10 mil a year, use the rest to sign other good players" $20 mil a year takes up sooo much of the cap..

Yeah, that's hugely overpaying. Ben is outside the top 5 QBs right now and he's not getting any younger, especially with his injury/off-the field history and general playstyle.
I know the Steelers have to do this, and it's not even a bad move. I often say that these contracts overpay but are still a good choice (JJ Watt's deal for example). Locking up your best player is worth overpaying for, basically. It comes down to what they will be able to without the extra 5 million (or more) they are overpaying as Jindred wrote. Most teams enter the season with 5 mil in cap anyway so that's like 10 million unspent for Pittsburgh that could go elsewhere and won't.

Ben definitely deserves to make more than guys like Flacco, Eli, Cutler and Romo... Flacco, Eli, Cutler and Romo are just grossly overpaid. No QB should be making around $20 million a year (including Peyton, my favourite player of all time). I'd say that Ben deserves to be getting paid like a top 5 QB though, since he has consistently hovered around a top 5 QB for the last several seasons (behind Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees, in no particular order... and about even with Rivers in my opinion). Since a few QB's have driven the market way up, paying Ben upwards of $20 million is pretty much a necessity unless he is willing to take a cut in order to help his team out. I wish more QB's would do that... Anyone worth a $20 million salary could easily sign a couple endorsements and make at least double that without even trying. Why eat up a massive portion of your team's salary in the process?

Why eat up a massive portion of your team's salary in the process? Yea. It is giving these megadeals to guys like Kaepernick and Andy Dalton that have driven up the Quarterback market price. Ben should be making $15-18 Million a season, but he deserves to be paid along the lines of Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers. Maybe not Peyton, Brady, or Rodgers money, but just a step below that.

A Steeler fan misspelling Chuck Noll's name? For shame...
