Seems like Canada has similar issues to America with politicians wanting to reject scientific evidence and research in order to go ahead with whatever politically fuelled ideas they might have. In the states, James Inhofe is now the head of the committee on the Environment and Public works, and he flat out denies climate change. He actually believes that we shouldn't do anything about climate change because God controls the climate and we are in His hands. Why the hell would anyone want him in charge of anything if he believes that he shouldn't do anything for the environment. That would be like making an atheist Pope.
The republicans also just passed a bill restricting the input of scientists advising the EPA. The bill looks to give preference to 'industry experts' rather than scientists, meaning they want to hear from the people being paid by the oil companies, rather than the pesky climatologists regarding climate change. And what do you think the oil companies are paying them to say. See link here.
In Canada, our conservative government has been muzzling scientists who produce results that go against their current views (drill, drill, drill and make lots of money). Environmental researchers have been silenced and funding has been cut in many areas of scientific research that aren't seen as 'profit generators'. Here is a video of Rick Mercer (Canada's version of Jon Stewart) ranting about our government.
It is sad that in a time when scientific progress is growing so rapidly, so many people want to reject the progress that we are making in favour of a quick buck or of outdated, harmful religious beleifs.
