Craig I don't want peace. I want to slow down rampant racism and militarism in the police force. If heads have to roll and buildings have to be burned for that to happen, that's too bad.
No, I absolutely did nothing when I was accused of fitting a description. Luckily I'm white. If I were black I would have been arrested, put in a squad car, spend the night in prison, been assigned a shit lawyer and likely forced into a plea deal for hundreds for doing nothing. Call that the black tax. Instead, I got to walk away.
They DID NOT have a trial. They didn't "pretty much" have a trial. They let him off because he was a cop. There were 267 indictment cases in 2013. 256 secured the indcitement. Off the 11 that failed, 7 were police officers, and there were only 7 police officers brought to chargers. That means that civilians get indicted 95% of the time. Police officers get indicted 0% of the time. They are invincible regardless of circumstance. I can't know if Wilson is guilty, I have NO IDEA if he is. The problem is, he is invincible and there was never even a shot of him being indicted.
That article is fine. Except that it's Darren Wilson's portrayal of the events. The cop isn't going to admit to murdering a guy whether he did it or not. His testimony can be used as evidence, and that's fine, but it doesn't mean anything for sure. But as I already said, I don't know or care whether or not Wilson was guilty. The fact is, we'll never know.
Blacks don't want to be cops because they're afraid of the militarized police and don't want to stand for the system that targets racial minorities and destroys communities.
Did you seriously just suggests that NOT shooting someone for six years is good enough? Is one slip up tolerable? LOL that's insane. He's not "holding in" his racism. "IF" (I'm seriously uncertain, I don't know the guy), if he's a racist, then the murder was definitely racially charged whether or not he had acted like a racist for years. Institutionalized racism can act in a case like this EG maybe if it's a white guy he only shoots in the arm or leg once instead of six times in the chest, arm and face.
I too want Jeff to weigh in. I'm sure he disagrees, but I want to hear other thoughts on this than mine, and I appreciate your criticsm as well Craig. It can get boring on a college campus with everyone so one-sided liberal. I am by far the most conservative person in a given college classroom just because I am a moderate. The shit I hear from privileged white college students pisses me off too, but I try and bring everyone to the middle, except on the justice system, which I have spent my life studying and am incredibly testy about.

No. It's much, much worse. This was a police officer, he shot the guy six times, and, although I understand Morkim was simplifying things, what he said isn't true. The verdict never came in. The prosecution failed the indictment stage. That means that the state of Missouri decided that there is no possible way that Wilson could be guilty, even though he shot a guy, and that he's so certainly innocent they're not even going to have a trial. This botched indictment will go down in history as one of the most disgusting abuses of power in United States history. We all need to remember that Darren Wilson shot a man and was not found innocent, he never was even charged or indicted. Meanwhile, black people are rounded up in all cities of this country for standing on a street corner or for driving while black. This country is fucking disgusting, probably the most racist in the world and those who uphold the status quo diserve to burn in hell. These looters and riot participants are fucking heroes. They're going to go to prison or even die fighting institutional racism in America. The chaos they cause in the next few days will cease quickly, the atrocities committed by our own government will never stop until Americans rise up and eviscerate the current police and military industrial complex. Police officers can commit public lynchings and not even see a court room. They are invincible. Young black men can and HAVE been put to death for fitting a description. They are guilty until proven innocent. I have personally been harassed for "obstructing pedestrian traffic" AKA being a teenager and I have personally been described as fitting a description, only to get off because I am white. The killing of Michael Brown is not the last time the police will murder an innocent civilian. The justice system will claim more american lives than it saves this year, just like it did last year and every other year. Ferguson will not be the only murder, but using it as an opportunity to destroy the system that is destroying the United States is an opportunity that can't be wasted. I stand with these protesters. Fuck the police Guilty until proven innocent? No. Just no. And as far as "black people are rounded up all over the coubtry for standing on street corners or driving while black" is simply not true. Racism is just not as big of an issue as people make it out to be. Does it still exist? Of course. And it is disgusting and there is nothing more infuriating than a human being being discriminated against for the color of his skin but it's not like you or the country is making it out to be. I agree with most of what I cut out from your quote, but I wanted clarify what I said on blacks being rounded up for doing nothing and thrown in jail. THAT IS REAL. It happens every single day in every city in the US. I didn't know it did and how bad it was until I spent two years researching racism in the criminal justice system. One particular kid in a book I read was arrested 22 times for 31 chargers in the span of six months, spent a total of 11 days in jail waiting for MANY trials, paid thousands of dollars, and was acquited on every single charge. He lived on the boarder of two Brooklyn neighborhoods that were targeted by police quotas to round up one person for every enforcement agent in the van, crime or no crime. This policy is still on going in New York, LA, Chicago, New Orleans, Boston, and DC. They say the victim meets a description, is obstructing pedestrian traffic, or has unpaid citations. There is no evidence for any charges and victims are usually released after short jail stays. I don't know what race you are Jancey, but I'm assuming you're not black or hispanic because if you were and you and lived in the US, you would know that it is like this. I too thought racism was overstated growing up a white teenager in New England. It feels that way when you see politicans and media guys talk about racism. But the reason they do is because the United States has a racism epidemic that whites don't recognize out of self preservation. That racism epidemic doesn't exist on plantations and schools like it used too. It now exists in police departments, jails, municipality level governement, and the rest of the criminal justice system. Conservatives who point out that Obama's presidency has been hard on blacks are absolutely right, the executive branch is the epitome of modern racism, and regardless of his race, Obama and the agencies that serve under or independently have amplified this. Check this: linkI realize that he is talking about welfare (and it's on the huffington post, so ew) but Taibbi's book is #1 on the reading list if you want to learn how bad this really is. Minorities no longer have civil liberties like I do. There is a spectrum of what rights you have, and it directly alligns with your skin color and how much money you have. Rich white guys (and also cops) are invincible in court and are on the long end of the civil liberty spectrum. Poor brown skinned people with "criminal" backgrounds (AKA the guy I described earlier. He's now a "repeat offender") are on the short end. That's what racism is, it's not about colored fountains anymore.

I agree that this is a touchy subject. I personally just get tired of all the racist claims. If the cop was black and the kid was white we would have not heard a word about it. There would be no riots. As a matter of fact that happens also. I'm not sure if Wilson is racist or not. If Tryvon Martin had killed Zimmerman you would have never heard a word. And it does happen every day.
It would be futile for me to go on and on as non of us know what really happened. I though really doubt Wilson got up that day and said to himself. "I'm going to go kill a nigger today" I do believe he feared for his life and rightfully so. The one close rang gun wound to Browns hand coincides with Wilsons story that Brown was grabbing his gun.

I knew the verdict early this morning as I drank my coffee, checking the football scores from last night and heading out to work today.
I said...Hmm...wonder what the day will bring with the black people I see almost everyday.
I said to myself....Self,this is Texas,,,Not up north...no worries.
After a days work....There was not a problem to be noticed at all. People were just as nice as they always are here. I was just as nice. Headed into the so called bad black neighborhood and all.....no problems whatsoever.
You would never know that there is racial tensions all across the US, as the media would have you believe.
Media is fueling this.
More thoughts coming.

I also deal with lots of people who are minorities. Black, Asian, Hispanic, and Mid Eastern. San Diego is a melting pot. I saw nothing different today either.

Juggs is all in an uproar over it and its the medias fault. He let the media work himself into a frenzy. Jeff I am the media And it's not my fault. I don't arrest innocent black kids by the thousands, refuse blacks for parole hearings, beat them and shoot them and decide not to indite their killers. I just summarize what's happening. The media frenzy you talk about does exist. Unfortunately, MSNBC, CNN and Fox News have taken over poltiical commentary and debate in America. Those outlets ARE stirring up a frenzy and making ferguson look worse than it is, even making the killing of Brown and the killing of Trayvon Martin worse than just one murder with sensationalism. No denial there, but you can't "blame the media" for covering racism when it happens.
