I'd have Montana as the first string QB over Young.
Also, idk if this is just recency bias or not, but imo Justin Smith deserves a spot on this list. Good list though. I enjoy these threads.

Most people probably would have Montana over Young but I was surprised to see how favorably Young's numbers compared to Montana.
Young: 91-33 record, 65.8 comp %, 29907 yards, 221 TD, 101.4 rating, 3581 yards rushing, 37 TD Montana: 100-39 record, 63.7 comp %, 35124 yards, 244 TD, 93.5 rating, 1595 yards rushing, 20 TD
Justin Smith did make the team. He's the backup right defensive tackle. After this season he'll likely be the starting RDT

Joe still should EASILy be over Young. The only edges Young has over Montana as a 49er is Pass Rating and Rushing, and it isn't by much. Montana is arguably the best Quarterback of All Time. No way in hell should Young be ahead of Montana. Young is Top 10 all time, but Joe is either 1 or 2. Enough said.

When he retired Montana was probably the best quarterback but has since been passed by Favre, Manning, Brady, and maybe Young/Elway/Marino. As having seen both players during their prime I'd prefer to face Montana over Young. Young was every bit as accurate as Montana and even if the secondary did everything right and the line generated a pass rush Young would take off and beat you with his legs. Young was quite possibly the least defensible quarterback in history.

As a Bears fan who have seen more than his fair share of Favre you quite simply are dreaming!! Favre is without question better than Montana!!!

(I know I haven't, I was wasn't born yet when he started, and I was too young to understand football before he finished playing). Favre isn't a better QB than Montana.
