No, I'm not just being crass with the title of this thread to gain attention.
Being raised in the church as a kid by born again Christian parents, I've always known one of the Ten Commandments is "thou shalt not use the name of The Lord in vain."
As an adult, I shifted away from organized religion, but I still consider myself highly spiritual, and I know one of my great vices is that one of my most common cuss words is Goddammit or Goddamn.
I've become so desensitized to the word that it doesn't even bother me all that much. I can't stand when people say "oh my God." Is it funny/weird that "oh my God" bothers me more than GD? It's like when I see someone on TV say GD, it doesn't even phase me. When I hear "oh my God," like as a reaction, that gives me a weird shudder, like a fart from a pretty girl.

Considering that you've stepped away from organized religion and are just highly spiritual, which is more of a personal thing than anything else, it is a bit funny/weird that 'oh my god' bothers you... It would make more sense if you were bothered by them saying 'oh your God'...

There's something about it that makes me feel that way too. Must be the way they say it on TV, I don't know. But I have no problem speaking it in my first language.

Yeah, that's a little weird. GD used to bother me, but I've been desensitized to it enough now that it doesn't even make me cringe much. Depends on the context I guess. When I read it online, I read it as gosh dang it usually though lol. I say oh my God sometimes if I get annoyed enough, but I try not to. But hearing it doesn't bug me.

IMO Oh my god is one of the most over used phrases at this point in time. I sometimes watch those home renovation shows and more often than not when they do the reveal the women just stands there going "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG" and it gets old very fast. Men will do it from time to time as well but women are very heavy handed with the oh my gods.
My question would be does it bother you faith wise that they that they are using the lords name in excitement? Or does it just annoy you as much as it annoys me? That would be my question for you.

lmao @ "oh your God". At least you capitalized it. Sometimes I don't even do that. haha Does THAT bother people?!? Seems like everyone is OMGing all over the place, no doubt most of them believe in God, so I figure 'who would possibly be offended?' But recently learned I've surely irritated a few people unknowingly. Like Jindred (maybe!?!) I'd tip the annoyance scale in favor of overuse. But I'm not the best person to ask since I'm not religious at all. Don't take this wrong, but ya hear so many speak of 'not religious', but 'spiritual'. IDK what it means. Sounds like a euphemism on dating sites for, well, I shouldn't say. Maybe like 'I practice a lot of yoga, so I'm bendy'. Goldschlager. Spelled correctly too. Had a sip once on a ski trip. That's some pretty vile stuff, way worse than Jager. You can't imagine the stuff people put in a flask for drinking on a ski lift that they'd never drink anywhere else.

Lol, not irratated when its once in a while, I use the term as well so I would be a hypocrite if I was bothered by a little bit of it Only the overuse gets to me lol.

OMG never bothered me. I really didn't even think about it. But GDI makes me cringe also. It actually just doesn't even make sense (especially if you are an atheist) and is unnecessary if you ask me. If someone is saying it in my house I ask them not to. Marlenes brother comes to watch football and he used to say it all the time. We have him trained now, "Gosh darn it" he says. haha. He learned because if he persisted he could not eat any of our food that Marlene makes on football day. He has freedom of speech but learned that comes with consequences. No live by Craigs rules in Craigs house, no eat. LOL.

I don't like when I say such things either, but I thought I shouldn't change my vocabulary because of my (lack of) beliefs.
