Ref actually was heard saying he realized the enormity of the milestone, the history of it and all...and that he allowed time for the team and the crowd to acknowledge the achievement.
This happened in '95 (for any of those on here that remember) when Marino broke the record. They took some time and allowed the short celebration before they got back to the game.
There wouldn't have been a penalty regardless of who it was, because it's a mountaintop kind of thing - nor should there have been. It's not a Manning thing, it's a historic thing. It's not something you see every day.

To be fair, the NFL was fine with Graham's dunking until he bent ATL's goalpost sideways. They should just fine him the cost to repair the posts... Or make their goal posts stronger. Wasn't he fined only after he'd been warned? But he definitely did it again after the warning, and got fined (again?). Not sure if there was a penalty on the kickoff too. But that's just stupid. Can he really not control himself? Does he need to make a statement? We get it, you played basketball. Anyway, that's not a stupid rule. Not a matter of repair costs and they can't make the pole stronger on the spot. It was not built to withstand a huge guy assaulting it. lol That probably wasn't Graham's intention, but they have to stop the game and fix it. What if a kicker missed a close one cuz of this? Anyone remember what they did for that pole and how long it took, etc? LMAO...come on down Bev...We have ribs and beer. Ribs YAY! Could you make more Thursday? Maybe we could see a repeat celebration. I'll freeze my leftover spinach pie and bring a nice chardonnay. Had no phyllo sheets so it's just the spinach with feta, ricotta, and parmesan cheeses. Yum, right? lol

People should be able to hang from that thing without it falling over or even moving an inch. That is probably against some kind of safety code for it to be that fragile lol.

I would normally think that this thread was just a joke... Seriously? People are going to ride him for his receivers playing keep away with his record breaking ball? When has Manning ever done any sort of celebration for a TD outside of this instance? It's a little joke that made people laugh... If you're going to lose respect for someone doing that then you really need to get a life. Patskid was right in saying it could have been penalized on the field because it breaks the rules of team celebrations, but those rules are getting absurd anyways. When Graham gets fined more for dunking a ball than Burfict gets for intentionally twisting ankles after the whistle, there is something not quite right about the priorities of the NFL. To be fair, the NFL was fine with Graham's dunking until he bent ATL's goalpost sideways. I think the posts are perfectly straight up, and Graham's dunk was so powerful it tilted the stadium a few degrees off center.

Honestly I dont know what I think of this. I dont think I have ever seen anything like this, but it really isnt a big deal. In theory Peyton and all the participants should be fined under the celebration violations, but I doubt that will happen. Obviously Peyton was going to be excited that he got another impressive regular season accomplishment. lol I understand that you're torn. You want to find a way to blame Peyton for this, but you understand that logically it would just be plain stupid to blame someone for wanting to celebrate a major accomplishment in a very minor and slightly humorous way. You guys think I hate Peyton way more than I actually do. I actually find it funny that someone else made this thread, because I wouldnt have bothered. Still that was a game changing, maybe season changing non-call. No way we can guarantee Denver wins that game if the correct call is made.

Wow...I post an opinion and the firing squad/pitchforks comes out in droves. You dont want to be attacked about this and that and scared somebody gonna call you a name or something in here, yet that is all some of you have done in this thread is attack me. Only two times did I count a reasonable reply or response to me.
So lets see...Keeping a running tally....SO far its been suggested that Iam on my period and should take the tampon out, that Im a Peyton Manning hater, that I should get a frickin grip, and that this thread is a joke and if I think that theres no validity to it,then I need to get a life.
Some of you never cease to amaze me. You want respect and people to treat you with such..but you come at me with pitchforks because I have an opinion on something and decided to post it.
Some of you need a course in reading comprehension.
I never once said that there was anything wrong with celebrating a crowning achievement, only that it shouldnt have been planned out and that it was lame to do so.
Never did I once say I lost respect for Manning. I still respect him very much as a great QB and person. Just thought he wouldnt ever do anything like that. Some of you said, not a surprise that hes a control freak. Well...I did know he was,and that is part of why hes such a great QB...but I didnt think he was THAT much of a control freak.
But anyway....Glad you all could let me post an opinion, without passing all kinds of judgements on me.
I know about where I stand in here. Thanks.
