San Diego has glaring needs my friend. Those needs are interior OL, DL, OLB and WR. Let's get the obvious out of the way, you made a good choice for the Chargers. They need to upgrade their G positions and maybe Cann can do that. If we don't go OL, we have to get someone who can strengthen the front seven, either a DE/NT or an OLB. NT because they have a serviceable veteran playing there but not a definitive answer for the future, DE because our starting DE Kendall Reyes is a huge waste of space and Corey Liuget, if he gets his contract extension, needs help along the DL because he is the only guy getting double-teamed game in and game out. OLB is a need too because Dwight Freeney and Jarret Johnson may not return next year, Melvin Ingram can't stay healthy, Jerry Attaochu is an unknown (not sure if he is a starter but not sure if he is a specialist either) and they have nothing behind that position truth be told. WR is a need to because Rivers needs more targets to throw to; he has Keenan Allen, Ladarius Green and Antonio Gates isn't slowing down, but Malcom Floyd is getting older and he can't do what he's doing forever.
That last sentence, is a downright lie! We don't need to spend a high-round draft pick on a RB. We may need one because Ryan Mathews may not return but we don't need to draft one early. Also, Donald Brown is getting released at the end of the season, for being a complete bum and a FA bust and Branden Oliver isn't the guy either. He could take Brown's place next year, but he isn't the guy. Any team can get a RB from anywhere, but the Chargers are in no hurry to get one.
We're letting Donald Brown go. Period. He's done absolutely nothing since he came to the Chargers. In fact, it was Donald Brown's fault that our P Mike Scifres broke his clavicle because he completely whiffed on the block that ended up getting Scifres hurt last week. Of course I can see Oliver's potential, he's a good player but he's not an every down back. He may be the closest thing we have to Danny Woodhead right now, but if the last few weeks have taught us anything, it's that Oliver can't do all of the things that Danny Woodhead can do. Not to mention his production actually has tapered off during the past few weeks because teams are starting to pay attention to him and slow him down considerably. We're not keeping Donald Brown on the roster going into next season. He's getting released as soon as the season is over. I'd stake my reputation as Chargers fan on it.
Finally, didn't you read what I said?! Jarret Johnson isn't coming back to the team next year, the Chargers are still looking for that franchise pass-rusher, they need a new starting DL opposite Corey Liuget not to mention a tradtional 3-4 NT, also if Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal don't come back, they'll need to replenish the WR corps. Furthermore, Attaochu's problem isn't that he isn't good; he is, he actually flashed some promise with a few plays and a surprise sack a few weeks ago, but his problem is that he missed a lot of playing time with a hamstring injury, so it's unclear what he is going forward at this point. We may need a RB, because Mathews and Brown might not come but we're not desperate to get one.
You can glance at the Chargers roster all you want but 10 times out 10, I know the Chargers better than you think you do.
