Round 1: Pick 2: Jamaal Charles
The guy ahead of me took Calvin Johnson so I had the choice of AP, Shady or Charles and I took Charles. Even though Charles might not repeat what he did last year, I still expect him to be the highest scoring of the three.
Round 2: Pick 19: Brandon Marshall
I always get 1 RB 1 WR after two rounds unless an elite TE or an elite second guy at one spot just falls into my lap. I would take Charles and Lynch for example, if they fell this far. I was choosing between Marshall, JJones, and Antonio Brown. This is standard scoring so that ruled out Brown this early, and I chose Marshall over Jones because I like a consistent starting lineup that will put up 110 every week instead of 150 one week and 80 the next. I think Marshall will put up consistent 15+ point games for me.
Round 3: Pick 22: Doug Martin
This was a weird choice for me, but I really like Martin's upside to return and be amazing like he was as a rookie. Normally I build consistent teams and now I have Charles and Martin as my starters, but I'm okay with that. I was choosing between Martin, Gore, Reggie Bush, and Alfred Morris. Looking back, I think I would have chosen Gore.
Round 4: Pick 39: Larry Fitzgerald
I needed a breath of fresh air here after getting risky with my early picks. Fitzgerald is super consistent, a good value, and the kind of player I want to start every week at my #2 WR spot. I took him over Eric Decker, Roddy White and Victor Cruz. Neglecting Cruz was particularly tough considering how good he's been to me in Pocket Aces, but I need to think for the future here and the Giants future doesn't look bright.
Round 5: Pick 42: Vernon Davis
This pick was a mistake I think. I felt like it was good value for Davis and I had my starting four filled out, so I pulled the trigger on my favorite fantasy TE not named Jimmy Graham. I was satisfied at the time taking him over Andrew Luck, CJ Spiller and Ben Tate, but later in the draft I checked the TE board and Jordan Cameron and Dennis Pitta were available in round 9 when most people (not me) were taking kickers. This served as a lesson for me, you can always wait on TE and QB. At least I did wait on QB.
Round 6: Pick 59: Cordarelle Patterson
I jumped for joy making this pick. Patterson was projected #40 overall so I got him after falling for a full two rounds. I love what he did last year as a rookie and I know he'll be involved a lot in an otherwise weak Viking offense. I hope Bridgewater gets him the ball.
Round 7: Pick 62: Tom Brady
My plan had been to take Cam Newton, but he and Nick Foles went just before this pick so I settled for Brady, who I feel is underrated (somehow?) and will bounce back for a near MVP type season this year. I was pretty excited about this and in retrospect I would have taken Brady over Newton.
Round 8: Pick 79: St. Louis Rams DST
Normally I say the end of round 8 is way to early but DST were selling like wildfire and I decided I had to pick one up. I usually wait too long on picking up a defense and play the waiver-matchup roulette game all season on defense. That usually gets me in the playoffs, but I wanted to build a championship team and losing potential depth was okay for me to grab a DST when everyone else does. Specifically, I think the Rams are going to get tons of sacks this year, and that is the most reliable way to draft DSTs.
Round 9: Pick 82: Maurice Jones-Drew
I needed a RB3 who would get regular carries and could be counted on to start in an emergency. I know I'll be playing a WR for my flex ideally, so I wasn't too disappointed to come up with high upside, injury prone MoJo here. I chose him instead of Steven Jackson, Lamar Miller, and Trent Richardson here.
Round 10: Pick 99: Fred Jackson
Okay, so it was time to throw some love back to my Pocket Aces roster and grab the guy who carried me to a championship last year. I know he's not really a starter anymore, but I couldn't pass up Fred Jackson since, if Spiller is injured or not playing well in the one week I'll like need to use either MoJo or Fjax, then I'll have an easy choice. I took him ahead of Shane Vereen, Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas
Round 11: Pick 102: Reggie Wayne
Basically the same logic that I had with taking MoJo. I need a reliable starting wideout in a good offense who can take over if Patterson or one of my starters can't play. I think Wayne was a good choice. I'm fully aware that he's not who he was in 2011, probably not even close, but he's a hell of a WR4 for his touchdown production alone.
Round 12: Pick 119: Jay Cutler
I needed a backup QB around this time, and I like that Cutler has amazing targets to work with this year. He's also passing to my #1 receiver so that definitely helps. I took him ahead of Ben Roethlisberger and Andy Dalton
Round 13: Pick 122: Knowshon Moreno
I know that Knowshon won't be anywhere near what he was last year, but honestly, he's a RB#5 on my team who shouldn't ever see the field unless my team is an infirmary. I also think that if he does explode like he did last year, he will be easy trade bait.
Round 14: Pick 139: Anquan Boldin
One more veteran WR to step up if I need a guy who can go and probably put up 8 or 9 PPG. Boldin is totally over the hill, but in standard scoring, teamed up with Vernon Davis on my roster, I felt he was the better choice than Mike Evans or Jordan Matthews (who I wouldn't have drafted anyway). I do regret missing out on Andre Williams who went right before Boldin, but I already had 5 runningbacks.
Round 15: Pick 142: Jeremy Hill
Surprise!!! I don't draft kickers at all. I wait until right before week one and add one based on matchups. I think kickers are useless and trying to predict them is even more useless. Very often a guy will go down with a preseason injury or his stock will fall in some way, and I'll just drop that person. Moreno, Boldin, or Hill could all end up getting dropped for a kicker right before the first game starts. I like Hill a lot from his college tape, but his situation sucks behind Gio. We'll wait and see on him. I took him instead of Terrence West, Alex Smith or Antonio Gates. Not exactly the cream of the crop.
