Greene will now be the 2nd player in team history to have his number retired, the 1st being Ernie Statner's #70. Greene was the centerpiece drafted in 1969 and retired with the team in 1981. His selection was what kicked off the Steeler's decade of dominance in the 70s, that has since continued to today's team. After his retirement Greene came back to help coach the team as well as being a player personnel man later on until he retirement in 2013. Joe Greene will be honored November 2 this year against the Ravens.
The question is, will other numbers be retired? And who?

Officially? Like Ernie Stautner retired? If so it has been a long time coming. However, I think he will be the only one since he started it all here and is arguably the best DT in NFL history.

There are some that are unofficially retired, like Bettis, Ward, Lambert, Ham, and Bradshaw. They still use other ones though, mostly out of necessity I think.

Yep if they retired every hall of famer's numbers then they'd run out of numbers. It's interesting to think about who they could consider.

Whenever they see fit, may as well retire 12,32,36,47,52,58,59 and 63. They don't issue those numbers so may as well retire them.
If they want to be more selective fine but 32 and 58 for sure.
