It's a horrible comment and he deserves to be suspended. "We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and nuke it til it glows."
If it was said about black people or women, no one would question that it's a terrible thing to say. For those who think homosexuality is a choice, let's liken it to religion then. If he said it about Christians or Jews or Muslims then it would still be seen as horrible.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say any time someone suggests a genocide of any group of people, it should be treated with some discipline.

He deserves a suspension.. It comes down to if you don't have anything nice to say just shut the hell up. This is a comment that in no way shape or form needed to be said and was said for no apparent reason.
The idea of free speech is gonna get thrown around here and people will say "He can't even speak freely." Well he can still say anything he wants but saying things has consequences. If I was in America I have every right to walk up to a black person and call them a worthless N word.. However the consequence of that is that I get the living shit beat out of me. You can say what ever you want but you are gonna have to deal with the repercussions of what you say. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say what ever you want with no backlash, it just means you can say what ever you want.

If you are homophobic you were born homophobic. If you are homosexual you were born homosexual (so they say). So if you are homophobic that is not acceptable right? Where is the tolerance?

And haha no you are not born racist, you learn it. I think homophobia is also a natural response. I was very homophobic as a young man. The thought of men doing men made me throw up. I have learned a lot. I can now accept it. Sometimes people need time, exposure, and well more time and exposure. But to be racist, homophobic, or atheist is not really a choice. You learn those things, and sometimes you learn the other side. I was an atheist at one time also. But I learned. Well actually I was shown, not learned.

You learn those things, and sometimes you learn the other side. I was an atheist at one time also. But I learned. Homophobia is a product of culture and has nothing to the natural way of things, just like racism. Kids don't give a shit what color people are or who they love until they start seeing the reactions of the people around them and learning from that. And you don't really make sense Craig... You say it's not a choice but that it's learned. It's either a choice or it's part of human nature... If it's learned then it's a choice.. Human nature means we just do it without thinking. Not sure how atheism lumps in with all that. I would argue that atheism isn't a choice at first, it's just the default position. People don't believe in a god until someone tells them one is there or until they start trying to fill in answers to questions that they can't answer. But in my case, going back to atheism was a choice in a way. Though I could never choose to stop being an atheist now. If I found compelling evidence to change my mind it would change, but I can't choose to believe in a god that I don't think could possibly exist. I understand that that certain things might seem like you can't choose... Like being racist or homophobic... Because those traits might be deeply engrained into you from where/how you grew up or from certain experiences, but people can change that if they really want to. The problem is many people don't want to change. But I don't advocate that every homophobe should be suspended from the NFL. People are free to think what they want and to say what they want. But when they say something that advocates a mass genocide of an entire group of people, I think the NFL has every right to stand up and say that it is not acceptable for a representative of their brand to say those things.

I agree that the put them on an Island and nuke em is pretty "threatening" And should be dealt with. But he's no different than lots of people. So to take away his pay will just make him shut up. Won't change him. And as far as you saskabronco and me, were are a lot alike. I thought just like you at your age, but maybe opposite on some things. I thought God was impossible, that is where you are at. I was shown. I learned that the AFTER LIFE exists. So I don't preach any religion. I just know that its out there. That's why Bill Mahre makes me laugh. He has no clue. But he will find out. He has no choice, he will see. I have. I don't care if you think Jesus, Allah, Budda, or Chief Buffalo Rump are imposters, it doesn't matter if you think the bible, Koran, and Dr. Seuss are fiction. THERE IS AN AFTER LIFE. Period. I have been there and back. And so has my niece who tells a story a lot like mine. So has my neighbor. I believe in Jesus, Allah, Budda, and Dr. Seuss. I believe in aliens, flying saucers, the bible, and Koran. If they didn't exist, why are we talking about them? Wow Craig that is deep.

I believe in aliens, flying saucers, the bible, and Koran. If they didn't exist, why are we talking about them? Wow Craig that is deep. I respect that fully. You believe what you have experienced. I don't claim there is no afterlife. I don't know one way or the other. I don't claim that no god is possible either. I claim that the Christian god is impossible and that the bible is a crock, because I see no way that everything Christians claim could possibly be true. It is a religion of contradictions, like most religions are. I don't care what other people believe, so long as it's not hurting anyone. I do care that people believe their god condemns homosexuality and that gives them a right to strip away rights from people who don't even practice the same faith as them. Bill Maher is arrogant and can be an asshole. I like listening to the discussions on I his show and I agree with some things that he says, but he in no way represents my beliefs fully. Ultimately he is a comedian who makes people laugh with a sense of humour that is quite vulgar and blunt. He hates religion and is not afraid to point out many of the flaws in religions. He often goes overboard but I'm glad that someone has the opportunity and the guts to be as vocal as he is about many issues. For example, he always makes jokes about priests molesting children and some might be offended by that, but the fact that priests have gotten away with for so long is a major problem and people who constantly make jokes about it keep people from forgetting how those horrible things have and continue to happen.
