Pure arrogance to think that their physical fitness is any better than the fitness of the best players in the world. Fitness? I'm talking athletic saska...cmon man. American Athletes are bigger stronger faster....its not rocket science. Messi is great, but he's 5'7"... Size isn't everything. Ronaldo is 6'2" though and built like a WR. There are some strikers like Nigeria's Emenike who are built like linebackers. But do you really think the size of American football players would be beneficial to them if they played soccer? Other countries have big strong guys as well, but they don't generally play soccer. To play soccer you have to be fit, lean and have a ton of stamina. Being 250lbs doesn't work for elite soccer players.

Being short doesn't mean you are weaker, slower or less skilled.. it just means you are shorter.. In soccer being big at a position like Messi plays is more often a detriment as taller players tend to be more awkward on the ball. I do however agree with you that the majority of Americas best athlete's aren't in soccer. The best athletes in school will always be recruited to Football or Basketball. Only those who truly love other sports will stick with them. However you look at a guy like Michael Bradley on USA and he may very well be one of the best athletes in america. Dude just played a full 120 minute game and he was still running his ass off at the end.. Dude is fit!

Again ...if US's athletes trained for that stamina, they would be better as well...due to their size. Yes height isn't a clear advantage but it adds advantages in many ways.
