This thread hasn't seen life in ages so let me repost this here.
My current Jets grades by unit:
QB-C
Geno Smith had 7 td's and only 2 turnovers in his last 4 games. He showed a lot of poise finishing the year WITH NO WEAPONS AT ALL! Vick's career isn't finished and he's back with the OC in which he was most productive under.
RB-B
Chris Ivory is a 5 yards per carry back when healthy and was a monster at times for NY. CJ2K finally gives the jets a pass catcher on 3rd down and still has homerun speed. Powell is nothing special but he makes for a good #3. If Mike Goodson comes back healthy, this is a deep unit with power and speed.
WR -C
Decker is no star, but he's productive and has great hands. Kerley is one of the better slot WR in the game. Stephen Hill and Jacoby Ford both have health issues but they can fly. Look for the jets to add to the position with a deep WR class in the draft, maybe in the 1st round.
TE-D+
Jeff Cumberland is underrated, but has trouble staying healthy. He has soft hands and decent speed. I'd call it a boom or bust year for him. With 12 draft picks, expect the jets to address this position also.
OL- B-
Ferguson had a down year, I see Giagomini as an even switch with Austin Howard, Mangold is still on of the best C, and I liked what I saw from rookie Brian Winters. The biggest question will be the health of Willie Colon, but I expect the jets to draft a G in the first 3 rounds. There is no reason to believe the jets won't have a good oline to start the year.
DL- A
Wilkerson, Richardson, and Snakes make for a monster D line in the 3-4.
LB- C+
Despite Walter Football's writer saying we have awful LB's without even mentioning names, Demario Davis is a rising star, David Harris is still productive, and the Jets had no problem getting to the QB with OLB Pace and Coples. I'd like to see Antwaan Barnes come back and last more than a few games. He looked promising until a season ending injury. In a way I feel like I am grading this unit too low.
CB - C
Some might say Milliner is our only hope. He had 10 passes deflected and 3 int's in his last 2 games. Ryan said he would be the best rookie CB by the end of the year. I guess we will have to see if that good play continues. However, the jets have a ton of young depth at the position with guys like Darrin Walls and Trufant. It's too early to write them off. They also added Patterson from Miami who was solid when healthy. Kyle Wilson is decent in the slot but won't make a #2 on this team. This is another position in which the Jets will probably look to address in the draft.
S- D
I like what I've seen from Antonio Allen, but as a group, this is the weakest unit on the team. I would love to add someone like Calvin Pryor.
ST- C
Jets are usually strong in this area, but they had a poor 2013. Hopefully return coverage is more than lackluster and Jacoby Ford can make an impact in the return game.
Anyway, this is how I see the Jets coming off an 8-8 season, a young team with lots of draft picks and they made some moves in free agency in areas of need. Doesn't sound like the worst team in the NFL to me. @beast, I'd say the jets and rams look very similar coming into this year; D line is all that stands out on either team as being great. Lots of question marks in STL too. Good luck.
