www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/4/14/5612732/nfl-draft-2014-jadeveon-clowney-workout-brandon-thomasI am really questioning Clowney. He is clearly the most physically gifted player in the draft, but if I had the #1 overall pick, I wouldn't touch him. He has BUST written all over him. He does just enough to show how talented he really is, but then he refuses to do anything above and beyond, and he will quit trying immediately if he sees a reason to preserve his health. Will he stop trying in the regular season to ensure that he will be healthy for the playoffs? Will he save himself for the Superbowl by taking it easy in the rest of the playoffs? Will he sit out the Superbowl so that he isn't hurt for the after party? The guy clearly cares more about himself than anything else and I would not trust him to lay it all on the line and do what it takes to win. I see him going the way of Jamarcus Russell. He will go #1 overall, he won't put in the effort needed to succeed against the skill he will face in the NFL and he will fade out and be known as another one of the all time biggest busts.

Mack > Clowney. Anybody questioning the dude from Buffalos work ethic?

Not to mention he didn't even give any effort on the field for the duration of the year. Anybody who watched South Carolina could tell Clowney was basically (but not literally) sitting out for the year because he knew he would likely be the #1 pick anyways. However, even with that said, I can't say I agree with you that Clowney will bust. I think the NFL will get him re-motivated and you'll start to see that effort from him again. saskabronco

He will whine and pout, because he is used to getting his way and doing whatever he wants, or he will step up to the challenge. But the selfishness in his actions thus far suggests to me that he won't handle the shock of not being the absolute best in a positive way.

Apparently, Clowney went above and beyond at South Car.'s pro day. I think him stopping the personal workouts after Thomas' ACL tear just scared him a bit, which in my opinion is completely understandable. I do not agree with him taking it easy his junior year, but if you look back further than that, you will find his junior year to be an outlier. He actually put forth effort his sophomore and freshman year, and if you watch Clowney's high school tape (which is hilarious, I might add. Never seen somebody be so utterly dominant) he looks to have given effort in HS as well. The question now is if his junior year (saving himself for later on) will be a recurring theme. But based on everything else Clowney has done in his football career so far, I don't think it will be.

It all depends on what type of situation he is put into. Talent is certainly there.

I think Clowney will be a good player, but about three years from now when we look back on this year's draft there will probably be a few guys we would put at number one instead of him. He has the potential of being a HOFer IMO, but he probably won't max out his potential because that's very high expectation. I just don't see what others see in Clowney as far a work ethic goes I have never seen anyone that freakishly athletic be as lazy as people are saying. You can be gifted athletically, but you aren't just born THAT athletic. You've got to work hard.

He is not going to be a bust. You guys are letting the media get to you here. It's a certainty he goes #1, and he's the most likely of any rookie to dominate his rookie year, as well as his whole career. I like Khalil Mack and Blake Bortles to be excellent NFL players too, but there is no questioning Cloweny's ability, and the work ethic concerns are bull shit. He's motivated by money. He'll get plenty of it in the NFL and he'll play like he did his junior year.
He didn't go 100% his senior year to avoid injury, and he's still going to be the #1 pick. What that tells me is that the Texans and Jags saw in his private workouts that he has no athleticism concerns and that he's not slowing down. Could he bust? Yes, anyone could. But I suspect Clowney will be a regular double digit sack club member, as well as an elite run defender and a good fit in coverage as a Texans 3-4 OLB, since he's as fast the average wide receiver.
It honestly pisses me off that he's going to be a Houston Texan. I am jealous, and if I hate on the pick later, you can quote me that it is just me being me. Believe the hype.
