I saw Saska make a similar post like that about the Bruins.. Skill should be able to come over that, no? And there is a ton of hacking and slashing that goes on in the regular season as well.

It gets far worse in the playoffs. Refs want to "Let the players play" meaning that they stop calling the game as it is meant to be. Refs don't want to affect the out come of a game, even though letting a guy drag Sidney Crosby down from behind does affect the game.. Skill can over come that and often will, but it really helps even out the game when a team constantly bullies your top players. Its why teams have to build differently if they want to win the playoffs. If you go back and watch past playoffs you can watch players like the Sedin twins and other purely offensive players disapeer in the playoffs, while grinding idiots like Brad Marchant, Matt Cook and Raffi Torres start to look like good players. Skill will sometimes come out on top, but only if those skill players can not get taken off their game by morons being allowed to do what ever they want to them. NHL Playoff hockey is by far the worst hockey to watch.

You can't really expect them to be their normal beastly selves (especially in the playoffs) coming off of injury. I understand the point you are making, but I don't agree it's as bad as you say it is. Besides, part of being a great player is being able to overcome things like that. Crosby is (imo) the best hockey player since Gretzky. I'm not saying Crosby is superman and able to work his way around every hack/slash he gets from other players, but things like that do not/should not take a good player completely out of the game.

Its every playoffs for the Sedins they get taken out of the game to a point of ineffectiveness. Crosby definitely is top 5 since Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Jagr are also up there(lucky ass penguins and their stars lol). Crosby can play that game and not get too off kilter because he has had to deal with that his entire career, he has always been so much better than everyone else that players just hang off him constantly to try and slow him down.. and it still barely stops him.. I laugh at people who complain that he is a whiner, those people would bitch at the refs too if they had guys hanging off their shoulder every other play. Its gotten pretty bad man.. My Dad who has loved watching hockey since he was a kid refuses to watch playoffs anymore do to how shitty the game gets.. Some series are better than others, when two skill teams play each other you get better hockey as there is less of the grinding hacking slashing BS, but when you get a miss match of a game like Columbus against Pittsburgh, Columbus will play a game that will bring the skill level down and try and grind out wins.

Can we really call the Sedins great players then? Not being able to produce when it matters most is a pretty big red flag. Ah, I wasn't considering Lemieux or Jagr since they played a good portion of their careers when Gretzky was still in the league. I am talking about players that have entered the league since Gretzky retired. I think Crosby is the clear cut best since that time. Sorry, I should have clarified that.

MarchingOnI'm so anti the "When it really matters" thing. The Sedins are great players when the rules are called as they are supposed to be. They absolutely dominate in world play where Refs don't stop calling penalties just because the stakes are high. And ahh then yes I agree Crosby is the best. Of course its not like he lead the league this year by almost 20 points.. *cough* lol
