www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000335038/article/carolina-panthers-cam-newton-to-have-ankle-surgery
Newton won't get to practice with his fellow teammates until late July or early August, due to his upcoming "minor" ankle surgery.
After losing pretty much all of their receivers as well as a few other pieces including Mike Mitchell and Captain Munnerlyn, this Panthers' team is already in the dog house. I'll go a step further and pretty much proclaim their season over. TB had a monster FA, NO got Byrd, and ATL also signed several starters to fill weak positions after a down year. I just find it amazing that we're not too far in the offseason and the Carolina Panthers' season already seems to be in jeopardy. I don't see them beating out New Orleans or Atlanta at this point, and honestly, even behind Tampa Bay. I think the Carolina Panthers will finish 4th in the tough NFC South.

With the way you said this I thought Newton would miss the entire season.

I'm not sure what is wrong with his ankle. But for a big QB who relies on his legs this can't be good.
If it was Rivers it would be like....Who cares he can't run anyway. But Cam is different. What happened to his ankle?

This seems like a walterfootball doomsayer write up. MarchingOn you like my analysis?

Newton is an explosive player, and not having much time to get to know his new receivers will be a struggle, but the Panthers won games off defense last year and that is being completely overlooked.

It's to early to tell IMO. It's lost a few pieces, but maybe that defense can still win them games.

I'd agree with beast somewhat. It's always tough to write off a team in March, but the outlook on the season looks pretty bad with a young QB missing much of the preseason, having 0 receivers and losing a couple good defenders. But there is still the draft and the possibility for some trades to happen. I wouldn't count them out completely, but even a repeat of last year seems like it would be a real shock right now.

“Cam Newton drops back to throw, fires downfield … and Cam Newton runs under it for the touchdown!”
Unless that’s the plan, then Carolina needs to get to work.
This sums up Carolina's situation perfectly.

Still better off than the Rams.
I kid. But really, I wouldn't write them off yet. They've still got time to right this ship.
