It's the slow part of the season between the senior bowl and the combine. But I thought I'd share this to get a few laughs.
Former Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo ranked every active NFL quarterback using his nine-point scale on thesidelineview.com
As most would expect Manning and Brady was at the top of this list, despite another poor performance by Manning in a big game one would think Brady or Rodgers would be at the top. But in stead Manning got a perfect 9 score. Aaron Rodgers, Cam Newton, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers and Andrew Luck capped the top tier of the list, already we have two QBs passing Ben, who haven't accomplished a quarter of Ben's success in their young careers with Newton and Luck. One could also make a strong case for Roethlisberger over Rivers as well. He described these players as "They can elevate the play of their team. Has an extraordinary make-up physically and has intangibles. An elite player."
But instead Ben was tied with Kaepernick and Wilson in the second tier. This tier was described as "at a high level. Was one of the reasons-but not the reason-for his team's success...not elite." On Roethlisberger, Angelo said "Still has the power in his arm and the 'hang in' toughness to move an offense." Roethlisberger, the older quarterback in this tier at 31-years-old, is the only one in the group with two Super Bowl victories. Alex Smith and Nick Foles round out the second tier.
As I said before, Luck and Newton wish they had a fraction of Ben's success. Now they may be great players in the future, but they have not been in the league nearly long enough to be ranked above a great QB like Ben. Let alone Kaepernick who wouldn't be half the player if it were not as good of an athlete, you take that away and he's an average passer. As for Wilson, so far he has a similar career arc as Roethlisberger's early career. He has a bright future, but respectfully he's not on the same level yet but he's a franchise QB who has plenty of winning ahead of him.
The rest of the list.
Third tier: Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler and Matt Stafford.
Fourth tier: Andy Dalton ahead of Joe Flacco, Eli Manning, and Carson Palmer. If he didn't lose all credibility already, he sure has now. A superbowl champ in Flacco and a multiple superbowl champ with ELi behind Andy Freaking Dalton?!
Fifth tier: Robert Griffin, Sam Bradford.
Sixth tier: Matt Schaub, Geno Smith and Jake Locker.
The Seventh and last tier isn't really worth mentioning, the last 22 round out the last two tiers.
