I think Clowney was an okay choice, but if I were the Texans I would have taken a QB. That's a longer rebuilding process than people think and I really doubt Ryan Mallet is the answer. Getting Manziel or Bridgewater now and scoring a pass rusher to complement the FAs you mentioned would have made way more sense to me. As I see it, you have no QB option and expensive contracts to keep your pass rush alive next year when you'll likely be drafting another QB to replace Mallet. So yeah, I would have probably have taken Johnny Manziel #1 if I were Houston. That would be a great story and I bet it happens in real life too. Mallet has just as much upside as both Bridgewater and John Football...Clowney is a once in a decade talent. Your first sentence is a fallacy. And Clowney has less talent in his body than Megatron, AP, RGIII, Dware and Darelle Revis have in their little fingers.

Your first sentence is a fallacy. Ryan Mallet > Bridgewater > Manziel > Bortles He doesn't even believe that. If he did, he would demand a release from the Patriots and get a multi-million FA deal.

Do you think Rodgers believed he was a starting caliber QB? He had a guarantee to start in two years. Brady could play another 5 years and the Patriots won't let him go until he retires. Mallett could be 28 by the team he gets a shot, and he's a hothead who wouldn't wait like Rodgers would.

You know how many yards Ryan Mallett is going to throw this year? 0. Manziel will break 3K most likely even if he starts off slow. Mallett has zero upside b/c he's a backup. If we judge this a year from now based on real life this trade is guaranteed bust for Houston. If you want Clowney than take him by all means and draft Smith, Garrapolo, Carr, Mathews etc. with the first pick in round two.

And if this trade happened Mallet would definitely not throw for 0 yards.

Mallett has no upside because he is a backup? wha? he is a backup to one of the greatest QBs ever. and unfortunately for Mallett, Brady had a lot more in the tank than Favre did when Rodgers was drafted. IRL, I think HOU grabs Clowney first and Garappolo in the 2nd, personally. Anyway, Not sure how you can call Mallett a bust. I personally would not have given a 2nd for Mallett, but if HOU feels he can be a starter, go for it.

A lot felt Mallett was the best QB in the 2011 draft (yes, ahead of Cam). Only reason he didn't go first round is because there was a marijuana issue or something with him around draft time. But Mallett has AMAZING arm talent. It really isn't a stretch at all to say he has a top 3 strongest arm in the NFL. And his accuracy is on point. And the dude can move, he's not a statue. You're underrating Mallett big time.
