2014 NFL Mock Draft
Round 1
1 – Houston – Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
This pick comes down to Jadeveon Clowney, Jake Matthews and a QB that the Texans find is the best. Teddy Bridgewater is the best QB is in the draft, and every successful team has their franchise quarterback. It's the only logic choice unless you think Matt Schuab will get magically better in the offseason, or TJ Yates, my dude, gets good at playing quarterback.
2 – St. Louis – Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
The Rams hold the second pick in the draft, with this pick Matthews in arguably the best player in the draft, besides Clowney. Matthews fills a much bigger hole with Jake Long coming off an ACL tear, Bradford might finally get a great tackle. The Rams might just trade down with teams like Atlanta or Minnesota so they can get their franchise player.
3 – Jacksonville – Johnny Manizel QB Texas A&M
Blake Bortles and Derek Carr are arguably better quarterbacks than Manizel but Jacksonville has been failing to sell tickets and Johnny Football a national icon will for sure bring in the fans. Until they realize that he probably sucks... But like so many teams Jacksonville needs their franchise QB.
4 – Cleveland – Blake Bortles QB UCF
See Above, Like Jacksonville, Cleveland found out that the 30 year old Weeden was a bust, the Browns need a franchise QB desperatly, Bortles will be able to work with Josh Gordon immediately.
5 – Oakland – Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina
Clowney has fallen far enough, the Raiders get arguably the best player in the draft, and fill a hole without moving their pick. Great Value.
6 – Atlanta – Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
The Falcons were “this” close to getting a once in a decade prospect, but alas they can settle on a still great pass rusher in Anthony Barr. Barr has so much upside it is unreal if in the right situation he can turn into a monster.
7 – Tampa Bay – Greg Robinson OT Auburn
With the top pass rushers gone the Bucs can replace the 31 year old Donald Penn who is due 13 million over the next two years and skill has been decilining by Penn and the right tackle who can both be upgraded.
8 – Minnesota – Derek Carr QB Fresno State
Minnesota is a great candidate for trading up with St. Louis, getting their choice at a QB first or second besides getting whatever is left. But a QB is obvious here, with the Ponder-Frazier era out, Minnesota would be stupid not to take a QB.
9 – Buffalo – Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
The Bills in this draft need to make EJ Manuel better, with a O-Line and a defined No. 1 or No. 2 reciever. Stevie is coming off a down year, Woods looks promising but not a No. 2 at the moment. Watkins is the consensus best WR who could be taken as early as five.
10 – Detroit – Marquise Lee WR USC
In one game Calvin Johnson had the case of the dropsies, everyone else on the Lions was unable to catch a pass. The Lions need a security blanket
11 – Tennessee – Khalil Mack DE/OLB Buffalo
12 – New York Giants – Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
13 – St. Louis – Haha Clinton Dix S Alabama
14 – Chicago – Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State
15 – Pittsburgh – Mike Evans WR Texas A&M
16 – Dallas – Louis Nix III NT Notre Dame
