Welcome to this weeks bengals weekly game preview between the bengals and falcons
As i said in the last one, ill talk about some pretty basic things about the game, things i want to see, and my prediction for the game. after the game, will give my thoughs on it
GAME SCHEDULE
the bengals will be playing the falcons in atlanta on august 16th at 8 PM ET. game is a national televised game for all to see that day on FOX. the bengals will wear there white away jerseys this game
RUNDOWN
both of these teams are almost dead even right now. of course more people would say the falcons are a better team than the bengals. the falcons window is closing fast on some peoples perspectives, while the bengals door just might be opening. i do believe the falcons are gonna take the next big step this year though, so we will see
HISTORY
the falcons have beaten the bengals in 7 straight preseason games. last time these two teams played in preseason was in 2007 in atlanta where the falcons won 24-19. last time the bengals beat the falcons in preseason was in 1974 in atlanta 13-7 in OT. both teams wont play each other again till 2014, but the bengals do own the series against them. however the falcons have beaten the bengals 3 straight in regular season as well. last time they played each other in the regular season, the falcons won 39-32. last time the bengals beat the falcons was 41-31
5 THINGS I WANT TO SEE
5.Consistency while running the football. not many players emerged last week against the jets while running the football, but cedric peerman did. still want to see better running the football though. law firm will not play this game, and his backup benard scott will not either. that means alot of the backup RB's will get time to play. either brian leonard or cedric peerman will start this game. someone must emerge this game
4.Get into the red zone more. Last week the bengals only appeared in the red zone 2 times. they were 1 for 2 on scoring a TD while they were there. that was a big problem with this team last year, because if they cannot get into the red zone more often, the defense will not be able to hold it together always. a better gameplan will have to come out this week, as the falcons did a good job at stoping the ravens starters out of the redzone
3.Who will take the #2 WR job. there were 3 guys in the running for the job, and that was brandon tate, armon binns, and mohamed sanu. tate and binns both had 2 catches last week, both for 24 yards. sanu had no catches last week. but instead rookie marvin jones emerged from the pack with 2 catches for 45 yrds. but hes not likely be the starter there unless he does more. which WR will step it up this game?
2.How well will the backups taking place for injured starters play. 5 players that started last week against the jets will not start this week. law firm, travelle wharton, carlos dunlap, rey maualuga, and taylor mays. ouch. the replacements are as followed. RB brian leonard or cedric peerman, LG clint boling, DE jamaal anderson, ILB roddrick muckelroy or vontaze burfict, and S jeromy miles. i already explained leonard and will explain miles in the next one. anderson is likely to possibly start week 1 too at this rate. i dont know if burfict or muckelroy will take maualuga place, but if it is burfict, can he have a good game like last week? i would have to expect clint boling to get the most eyes on him. only travelle wharton is out for the season, so boling will need as much playing time as he can get to get in the grove of being a starter
1.Bengals DB's VS Falcons WR's. this is the story of the game for me that i want to see. julio jones for the falcons last week had over 100 yards in 6 catches on the ravens secondary that is alot better than the bengals. if the bengals can somehow shut down the falcons good WR's this game, it would be a plus. leon hall and nate clements are likely to be the bengals starters at CB. reggie nelson will start at one S, while jeromy miles will be taking taylor mays place at SS, whos only played special teams his entire career. plus how well might the backup CB's like terence newman and adam jones play, or jason allen if he ends up playing this week.
PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR
4.OG Clint Boling
hes the next man up starting in place for travelle wharton whos out for the season. boling was having a very good camp this year, but struggled as a rookie last year. how well will he play as a starter again now?
3.ILB Vontaze Burfict
with rey maualuga out this game, he will probably start this game. he had a spectacular game last week against the jets and hes still fighting for the backup ILB job with roddrick muckelroy. can he repeat like last week against starters this time?
2.RB Dan Herron
law firm and benard scott are out this game, so the young RB's get a chance to make some noise this game. hes still fighting with brian leonard, cedric peerman, and aaron brown for the 4th RB job. if theres anybody on the roster who has a chance to make a surprise this year, its herron. but can he produce?
1.CB Terence Newman
newman is fighting for a starting CB job with nate clements and he will have a big task against the falcons WR's this week who are very good. he was good last week, but that was against the jets. he wont be starting the game, but with leon hall probably only getting a couple of snaps, newman will have his hands full this game. can his experience help him stop young guns like julio jones or a veteran like roddy white?
PREDICTION
the bengals did play better than the falcons last week, but the bengals played a bad jets offense, while the falcons shut down the ravens offense last week. plus since the falcons own the bengals overall in preseason, i think its gonna be tough for cincy to stop that streak. i do expect alot of points scored this game though

i will not be online for this game since i will get it on TV, so after the game is over, ill talk about my thoughts the next day
