Apologies if this offends anyone (xdeadlymiragex - if you're here, it's not directed at you).
So RG3 throws a few passes in a preseason matchup against the Bills with no pressure and now a bunch of cocky Skins fans are starting to pop up out of the ground...
Not only do they have the fairweather vibe, they haven't even had a .500 season or better since 2008. I understand they're excited about their new QB, but they're awfully cocky now for no legitimate reason. Disgusting.

To be fair, many Cowboys fans are like that every season.

Many fans in particular are like that period. I've seen an upswing in bronco fan's trash talk lately too. When you boil it down, its the difference between the sunday fans and the year round fans. A sunday fan is all about their team (Mantis is the best example of this now). They cannot see the league past their own teams during the season and only start to see the truth when playoffs come IF their team doesnt make them.
There is nothing wrong with this type of fan. I would estimate 90% of fans actually fit this mold better then the year round fan. They will cheer and fight for their team. They will get over excited about a change of position and get lost in the wanderlust of making a deep run to the playoff's. 100% of football fans can fall into that trap, but 10% can take away their homer-ism and look at other teams unaffected. Where as the other 90% will look at the league, and automatically weave in the preconceived notion that their team is the team to make the run.
For the most part everyone on this forum are year round fans, we all have our homer moments, but we've all been able to actually talk football in a whole, thats why we're all here, at least in my opinion.
For the coming weeks be wary of the Homer-talks. RGIII, Luck, Peyton, Tebowists, even fans of fan bases, like my Raiders, who think every year is "The Year." In the same right you need to be on the look out for the anti's too. The people who are so polarized against a certain person that they ruin credibility to argue with the other fans till they lose their argument base and get caught up in being against the other fans. If there was on of the groups i'd say i was anti in, its Peyton's health and durability. One thing that i've tried to make clear is it has nothing to do with my team affiliation. But because that is there i realize a lot of people wont take me serious because i am a rival fan. Its part of life.
All we can do is try to continue being that 10%. We wont always make the grade, but i feel that we need to at least keep it in mind when we start to get over excited, or overly anti.
Other then that all i can suggest is trying to ignore them. Don't get caught up in fighting with a excitement driven fan, they wont drop their views and will treat you like the grinch that stole xmas for trying. All you can do is state your point, clarify it, then get out when it starts to get argumentative.

There are a lot of Redskins fans on site. A lot of fans will find their way to the forums this year because of changes made to the site. As of today all 4 NFC East teams are contending for the title, and in recent years the Redskins have started fast. Redskins fans have more reason for optimism this year than for the last 3 years.

To be fair, many Cowboys fans are like that every season. have to agree with you on this one ------------------ even though redskins fans are going a bit overboard lately, cowboy fans are the same way, but worse with the whole "SUPERBOWL" crap and i though the nfc east was the division that ANYBODY can win? why cant the redskins win it then?!

I've been on NFL.com and should have seen most of the Redskins fans that have been around for a good period of time. Jakkispeed has been on at least as long as I have, he has just stuck to the war rooms. He is a good guy. Thebrokenwhistle has been around quite a while too but he is a homer and trash talker. If you see any other Redskins fans suddenly join and you are wary about them I should be able to give you an idea if they are new or not. I'm not sure yet if this is due to increased confidence or them being pushed into the forums by facebook but they aren't band-wagoners or fair-weather fans
