craig440 - well, as I've said before, I am not black, and can only imagine how offensive this would have been had I been. My family and I have been victims of racism, and you might forgive when it doesn't affect you directly, but if so you never forget. Someone like Vick has to say he has. I doubt he has and must agree with his brother. IDK, but my gut.

Mark Twain's novel Huck Finn is part of the high school English curriculum "canon"--although for YEARS parents and other groups have been trying to get this book banned because of its liberal use of this term. Ironically, today's youth have a hard time understanding what all the fuss is about. A hundred years ago (or even 20 years), if someone (white or black) used the word "nigger," it was met with shock and horror. BUT--- we are no longer in the turn-of-the-century "Jim Crow" era, or the pre-Brown vs. The Board of Education separate-but-equal 1950s, or the violent riot-driven civil rights era of 1960s. To today's youth, those days are ANCIENT HISTORY. I might be 50 years old--and all too aware of our racially divided past--but, I have an English curriculum unit that teaches students about a more recent past--the 1992 LA Riots, and MANY MANY of these teenagers NEVER EVEN HEARD of this conflict. In my experience, I have to say that this "supposed" race divide is PURELY generational. Once all of us "old folks" die off--and the Generation Y kids are ruling the world--this race stuff(along with gay-bashing) will be just an ugly footnote mentioned in the history books. At least, I hope that's the case.....

Ok, some of you here probably saw the big debate we had about the George Zimmerman - Trayvon Martin case in the Politics thread here. The media made that case and (still are continuing) all about racism. That case honestly really pissed me off for that reason, because the case really wasn't about racism, but the media kept bringing race into it and make the public think it was about racism. I get really annoyed how white people are always portrayed In the media to be racist yet the truth is that black people are more racist than whites.
I'm fed up with the media and the one-sided reporting. If we're going to make a big deal about a white guy saying a racist comment and put it in headlines for days then let's see it both ways. Next time a black athlete says a comment that's racist to the whites (ie cracker) let's put that in there too.
Yeah Misslacy, it is a generational thing, but I don't see the racial tension dying down until the POS media stops purposely trying to start a racial divide.

And boy was it different way back then. I remember. I loved your post!

In two hundred years from now there will be no races. Just a mixture of everyone. That may make the coolest human.

That's why I love the Jamaican national motto, Craig--- "Out of Many, One People."
I have a hard time understanding why such a tiny island that declared their independence from England a mere 60 years ago--and whose native people were ALL SLAUGHTERED by the English/Spanish/French conquerors and then they suffered through a much worse black slave trade than the US could ever imagine--appears to be more progressive in embracing their racial differences than us. Makes you wonder....
