Something I don't quite understand. Devin Hester was always their #3 WR, even possibly #2, particularly when Johnny Knox was hurt, which was often if I recall correctly. Look at Hester's production 2008 - 2010. He ranged from 40 - 57 receptions a year, for 475 - 757 yds a year, and a total of 10 TDs. This is of course in addition to special teams duty - pretty solid, wouldn't you say?
So they go out and get Eric Weems last year, who was almost strictly a kick and punt return guy for the Falcons, and pretty good at it. I was certain they got him to give Hester a break and get him more involved in the offense. Last year, Weems get 13 kick returns, less than 1 per game, and that's it - he gets no field time as a WR. Hester still gets almost double plus all 40 punt returns, and still manages 23 catches for 242 yds.
Rookie Jeffrey missed 6 games, Bennett (who I think is awful, or at least used to be) missed 4 games. Hester hasn't missed a game since 2009. He's better and faster than either of them. So....what's up with that!?!? If they don't list Hester as a WR who also does returns, how could they possibly list Weems as one when he does almost nothing. Maybe they just had no room for KR/PR/WR. That's no biggie, but still, I don't get why the Hester/Weems roles went down as they did.
