Here are the Bills seven picks:
1.16 - EJ Manuel QB FSU Grade: B- NFL Comparison: Jake Locker
If you were expecting the Bills to take a QB that would start day 1. This would be a horrible pick. But Kevin Kolb is going to start at least half the season unless Manuel turns into the next Russell Wilson but he most likely will sit for a while and learn how to be a prominent NFL QB. Most give this pick a bad grade because the value wasn't there and many wanted Marrone and the Bills to take Nassib. But I think Marrone after four years with Nassib he knows where his peak is, Maneul has a pretty future. From game tape Manuel has great arm strength good short and mid range accuracy. With downsides of, deep accuracy and decision making. The deep accuracy won't be needed much with the West Coast offense Marrone is going to run. The decision making will simply come in time. This grade takes a hit because I do believe the Bills could have gotten him with the 41st pick, and Eifert with the 16th pick.
2.41 - Robert Woods WR USC Grade: A NFL Comparison: James Jones
Robert Woods running a 4.42 40 and measuring at 6-1, Woods is the speedy tall receiver Buffalo needs since Eric Moulds departed from the Bills. Woods in my opinion was the most pro-ready WR entering the draft this year. Woods will immediately be the No. 2 across from Johnson. He will be needed to be a WR that can run routes outside and across the middle relieving Johnson from the double teams and being counted on for all the receptions.
2.46 - Kiko Alonso ILB Oregon Grade B- NFL Comparison: Bobby Wagner
At first Kiko Alonso was a head scratcher for me. But game tap shows that he is an explosive, fast and great coverage linebacker. He can play basically any linebacker position in the 4-3 and 3-4. This versatility that Mike Pettine used in New York will be utilized in the Bills defense. Game tape shows he can be the starter on the inside in the 3-4, and the starting middle linebacker. This grade takes a hit though because Arthur Brown was still on the board at the time.
3.78 - Marquise Goodwin WR Texas Grade B- NFL Comparison: Mike Wallace
The former Olympic long jumper and the 4.24 40 runner, 132 inch broad jumper Goodwin is an athletic freak. He will be the fastest man on the field and can simply streak down field or take a screen and run it to the house. McKelvin will be taking more defensive reps to Goodwin will be the mostly the KR and PR, he will replace what McKelvin did last year. But Buffalo didn't really need a WR at this point.
4.105 - Duke Williams DB Nevada Grade: B- NFL Comparison: Lawyer Milloy
Duke Williams is a extremely hard hitter that will probably get fined with a lot of penalties from Goodell. Gets caught up in the run too much. He can play nickel, FS and SS in the Bills defense.
5.143 - Jonathan Meeks S Clemson Grade D+ NFL Comparison: UNKNOWN
I haven't watched too much tape to be a conclusive analysis. But two safeties really?
6.177 - Dustin Hopkins K FSU Grade C
He is a kicker. Poyer was on the board. But he has a HUGE leg.
7.222 - Chris Gragg TE Arkansas Grade A NFL Comparison: Aaron Hernandez
Gragg's real position is at WR. Is a great addition for the Bills recieiving core while Chandler is recovering from his ACL injury. Not exactly a steal but an all around great pick.
UDFAs -
Da'Rick Rogers WR Tennessee Tech Grade: A
