Welcome everyone to taking the time to read my preseason week 1 preview between the jets and bengals.
I will be doing a preview every week before each bengals game, talking about some basic stuff before each game to watch for.
After each game I will also be talking about my thoughts on the game as well. ok so here it goes
GAME SCHEDULE
the jets will be playing the bengals at cincinnati on august 10th at 7:30 PM ET. game will be televised live on nfl network or local 12 for anybody that lives in the tristate. the game has already been blacked out, so the game will not be televised for people close to cincinnati. the bengals will wear there white away jerseys this game
RUNDOWN
what a difference a year makes. a year ago, the jets were a superbowl contender while the bengals were likely to not even win 4 games last year. now the bengals are looking better and possibly a threat in a year or two, while the jets are struggling to find out if sanchez or tebow is the answer. while alot of people would say the bengals are a better team than the jets, the jets are likely to finish with a better record than the bengals
HISTORY
The jets have beaten the bengals 4 straight in preseason games. last time these two teams played in preseason was in 2011 where the jets won in new york 27-7. last time both these teams played in cincinnati in preseason was 1995 where the jets won 30-24. the last time the bengals beat the jets in preseason was 1985 in cincinnati 24-20. though both of these teams dont play each other in the regular season until next year, the jets have beaten the bengals 4 straight including the playoffs. last time they played each other in the regular season, the jets won 26-10 in 2010. bengals last beat the jets in the regular season in 2007 38-31
5 THINGS I WANT TO SEE
5.Win the game. yes, i want to win this game even though it doesnt mean anything. i dont believe that winning preseason games purposely make you have a bad record in the regular season. the lions did go 4-0 in the preseason in 2008 only to go 0-16 during the regular season, but they also went 4-0 last year and made the playoffs. so please dont tell me winning the preseason games mean nothing. not to mention playing a jets team that has been kryptonite for the in the past. winning this game would be a confidence booster for this team
4.Smart defense. the bengals defense was a top 10 defense last year, but they need could do alot better by making plays and not giving up the big plays at the same time. mainly i want to see the LB's not getting blown by TE's and the DB's being able to handle the WR's without giving up too many big gains. playing some good QB's this game like sanchez and tebow will test the bengals defense to see if they can get better
3.Offense keeping it together. a problem i saw last year was not enough consistency on the offense. at times they looked good against bad teams, and at times they looked bad on offense against the good and bad teams. this team cannot become a cardiac team, because that will not get you anywhere in the nfl. start out right on offense early and dont let up off the gas, by not going on 3 and outs so many times early. and to start it out right, someone must step it up at the WR position this game
2.Domination on both lines. the OL has went with some upgrades at OG with travelle wharton from the panthers and drafting kevin zeitler in the 1st round of the draft. OG's were a big problem last year with nate livings, bobbie williams, mike mcglynn, and clint boling. if the OL plays good, the run game will play good. and the DL must not wear down like they did last year. they were dominant against the run all year, but wore down at the end of the season. hopefully new additions in the draft like devon still and brandon thompson will help that
1.No injuries. this team has been getting unlucky lately with injuries. on the offense they havent had as many problems, with only backup RB benard scott hurt for a while, which is the only plus. the defense isnt so lucky. backup DL players robert geathers and pat sims are still hurt. the CB's have gotten the worst of it. starting CB leon hall is still hurt and recovering. already 3 other CB's are done for preseason, 1st round pick dre kirkpatrick, and 2010 3rd round pick brandon ghee are done for preseason. not to mention 5th round rookie CB shaun prater is out for the season. injuries at CB killed this team last year. If the secondary cant overcome these injuries, opposing QB's are gonna be licking there chops before we play them
PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR
5.DT devon still
im excited to see he plays against the jets backups this game as he could of been a day 1 starter on other teams. he will fit nice in the rotation
4.WR a.j green
he wont get much playing time, but lets see if he can do something off of darelle revis
3.OG kevin zeitler
hes gonna be a day 1 starter, and is the only rookie to be starting this game, so im excited to see how he matches up against the pros and newcomers like quinton coples
2.WR jordan shipley
hes coming back from an injury, so this is his year to get back on track. i dont know how much playing time he will get, but dont be surprised if he does something
1.ILB vontaze burfict
the guy that has most to prove is right here. hes fighting for a roster spot and the backup ILB job as well. he could of been much higher in the draft but wasnt so this is his time to shine
PREDICTION
the bengals are the better team, but the jets own the bengals in the past. they also have some better depth in areas that the bengals dont have. i dont expect the streak for the jets to change this week

i will be talking about the game afterwards on what i liked and what i didnt. enjoy the game this friday, for all that are watching it
