And the first team to clinch a playoff berth: The Blackhawks. Brandon Saad is coming on well, lately and should be an integral piece to our playoff run. Andrew Shaw/Big Dick Bickell (Chicago fans have fun) have also been getting some points lately. Very optimistic as we head towards the playoffs.

Chicago looks good. Their ability to stay out of the box has truly made the difference.

not a hockey fan, but i am a local supporter of my ohio teams, and ive just noticed that the blue jackets dont suck this year. of course they could always choke down the stretch and finish under .500, but they seem to have a legit chance to go to the postseason this year. i might have to watch more of there games

columbus wont make the playofs this year but they are heading in the right direction. Picking up Gaborik was smart. I guess they could pull out an unprobable playoff berth but its doubtful. maybe in a year or 2.

I think Columbus should make the playoffs. They struggle at times, but they have a strong defense and a solid goalie that make them a tough out. Gaborik will only enhance their offense and, while they probably get swept in the first round, I see them pulling out the eight seed.
Side note: The Predators should not be this bad. Ryan Suter was the defenseman that they should have kept, but their losses were not substantial enough to make them drop off, by this much. Rinne is a top-5 goalie, their defense is solid, and they have talent on offense; the chemistry just seems to not be there. However, them stealing Flip Forsberg for Martin Erat will pay long-term dividends. That's a top-4 forward and one that will make at least a few all-star teams, in his career.

who in the top 8 do you see falling out nick? detroit? st louis? I mean they could sneak in but looks like all the good teams are already there.
I dont understand nashville either, they are like tampa bay. They should just be better.

Detroit. This isn't rivalry hate, but that's not a team that I see finishing this playoff push. The weaknesses in Jimmy Howard are being exposed behind a porous defense and Zetterberg cannot stay healthy. For as outstanding as Pavel Datsyuk is (and he's one of the top 2 or 3, two way forwards in the game), he cannot carry the team, alone. Their off-season acquisitions are not producing and I see them slipping. I could be wrong and very much so admit this, but Detroit is fallible. St. Louis is too talented to drop out of the playoff race.

It would be strange to see, but it's in the realm of possibility. Really, it just means it's good for Columbus to finally be building a playoff team. Replacing Nash with Gaborik (ultimately) is a brilliant move. Nash takes WAAAY too many shots and is not someone that can be "the guy" on a young team. I'm hoping it happens the way I feel it will.
