My thoughts: I've never heard of him. Not a bad thing, because you never hear of future GMs. He is 62 years old.
That's it.

Another plus for you is that the Browns took OC Chudzinski away, meaning at least on offense you will have new life.

A couple of things I took from the Gettleman interview posted on the Panthers official site:
I like this from him. Instead of coming in and giving Rivera a flat out ultimatum for next season, he seems to have instilled in Rivera that he's going to fully back him and the rest of his staff and work with him to get things working. As much as I've come down on Rivera, as many others have, lately, I've ALWAYS felt Rivera deserves a third year and seeing Gettleman fully back him and his staff really says a lot about the guy. Sure, if the decision to bring in a new coach was his to make, I'm sure he'd go that route, but at least he didn't put it in Rivera's mind that this would be a lame duck year so he could get his own coach in '14 and Rivera wouldn't have a chance regardless of how the team plays. Maybe Gettleman's backing of Rivera will give him more inspiration to excel next season.
This tells me this guy will be much more willing to make the harder decisions that Hunrey just wasn't' able to do when it came to veterans on the team (signing Delhomme to a $48 mil deal after a 6 turnover playoff loss and sinking $89 mil into 3 RB's). And it brings me back to guys like Gamble, Gross, Williams, Stewart, Beason, and as much as I fucking hate to say it... even Smitty. With the high price tags on all of these guys, I wouldn't be shocked to see at least half of them cut or traded by 2014 to bring that cap figure down.
Like I said before, I'm excited to see where this team might go now with Gettleman as our GM... but I'm not the least excited about the possibility of losing a lot of our fan favorites like Smitty and Double Trouble. Smitty will always be the heart and soul of the Panthers along with the likes of Sam Mills. As a die hard fan, I'm not looking forward to the day that time comes. All I can do is hope Gettleman and Rivera can turn this team around quick enough to get Smitty that SB ring b/c he truly deserves it.
