YPC is one of the most overrated stats in the game today. Not really impressive to me.

YPC is one of the most overrated stats in the game today. Not really impressive to me. it is what defines a RB's greatness, how it is overrated? Because it can be inflated by long runs (as in Charles' case). Charles gets most of his yards off of big runs outside. He isn't a very good runner inside the tackles. You can have two long runs of say 50 yards and then get 75 yards off the next 20 carries (which in itself is 3.75 ypc) and still have a ypc average of 7.95 (I did the math). To me, that doesn't define the ability or greatness of a running back.

Great runningbacks to me, are players like Jim Brown,Earl Campbell,Barry Sanders,Walter Payton,Gale Sayers and OJ Simpson.
Then you have your Emmitt Smith,Marshall Faulk,Terrell Davis, L.Tomlinson and Eric Dickerson.
Then 3rd tier you have like Bo Jackson,Priest Holmes, etc etc...you get the picture.
Adrian Peterson is Great and will be in upper tier one day.
Jamaal Charles....maybe 4th tier,maybe.

Honestly I would have a hard time putting in the 5th tier. And I am his biggest fan.

To me, that doesn't define the ability or greatness of a running back. I'd gladly accept a guy who has 2 long runs of 40 yards each and 63 yards on his other 20 carries per game. I'll even write-off 2 games a year for injuries. Who wouldn't want a 2000 yard rusher with a 6.5 yard average?
