heres what happened lately
rays CF b.j upton signed a 5 year deal with the braves. well that means michael bourn isnt coming back now
yankees C russell martin signed a 2 year deal with the pirates. good move for the pirates, as they badly needed a catcher a
athletics OF johnny gomes signed a 2 year deal with the red soxs. loved gomes when he was with the reds. glad to see hes got a better deal somewhere else now
yankees RP mariono rivera resigned with the yankees on a 1 year deal
reds RP johnathan broxton resigns with the reds on a 3 year deal. sources say that broxton is likely gonna be the new closer, and that aroldis chapman will be moved to a starter, which means SP mike leake is gonna be moved to the minors, or SP bronson arroyo will be traded
also former reds RP ryan madson (didnt play last year) signed a 1 year deal with the angels and will be there closer
------------------
for trades the philles trade for astros RP wilton lopez in exchange for some minor league players to the astros. the phillies needed more bullpen help, and the astros want to keep building the farm, so i think its a good move for both teams
also the nationals traded for twins CF denard span in exchange for one minor league player. i wanted the reds to trade for span, but the nationals got him first. and they only had to give up one minor league player. pretty good deal for them
----------------
the biggest free agents on the list still are OF's josh hamilton and michael bourn and SP zach grienke
im thinking hamilton is gonna sign with the red soxs, while bourn signs with the phillies. the rangers and dodgers want grienke the most, so i think the dodgers will get grienke
------------
and finally my cincinnati reds still need to deal with the OF issue. they dealt with the bullpen problems now, unless they want to sign royals joakin sorio. reds still need to resign ryan ludwick, and if they cant get him, maybe red soxs RF cody ross could be signed and moved to LF
lots of good CF's left for the reds to sign too. michael bourn would be nice, but hes alot of money, and my guess is hes gonna go to the phillies. dodgers shane victorino and giants angel pagan are the best choices left and realistic. and if all else fails, maybe the reds trade for the athletics CF coco crisp

The Phillies trade for Wilton Lopez fell through because he failed his physical I think. Elbow issues.
The Mets also just signed David Wright to a 8-year/$138 Million extension.

looks like david wright isnt the only met to be extended. r.a dickey just got a 2 year extension as well. not saying this is a bad move, but the mets are trying to build for the future, so i think they really need to consider trading him. they could get a kings ransom for him
the redsoxs have interest in signing SP ryan dempster as well. not sure on dempster honestly as he had some problems last year
the athletics traded for pirates RP chris resop in exchange for one minor league player. the minor leaguer is a pitcher so if he can be a starter, i think the pirates win the trade
the giants and phillies both offered OF angel pagan a 4 year deal. well i guess i can take him off the reds list. that surprises me though because what does that mean for michael bourn
and finally, the braves traded SP tommy hanson to the angels in exchange for RP jordon walden. walden was terrible for the angels last year. hanson was not very impressive either though, he had more bad starts than quality starts last year. however the guy is only 26 years old and young starting pitchers are always good to have. the angels win this trade
-------------------------
for the reds news, it looks like they will try to pursue a CF in trade first and then try free agency. with angel pagan likely to go to the phillies and giants, and michael bourn riding the money train, the most likely free agent remains shane victorino. but again, trade is the #1 priority for them. coco crisp anyone?

Yet another reason why there should be a hard Salary Cap in Baseball. There is no way Kevin Youkilis deserves the kind of money the Yankees just paid him at this point in his career...

I am pumped about the moves that the Blue Jays have made so far in the off season! The pitching rotation is starting to look really good! If they can stay healthy this year the Jays are going to be a tough team to beat!

The Pirates just signed P Franciso Liriano to a two-year deal.
Eh. Not particularly excited about this move, but who knows? The Pirates have gotten a lot out of supposedly washed up Pitchers lately (Burnett, Rodriguez). He might turn out to be a gem as our 4th man in the rotation.
