I know he has statistically played well, but I honestly believe that Manning is one of the most overrated players in the NFL simply because he is Peyton Manning. Look at the teams the Broncos have faced this year.
Week 1 Vs Pittsburgh Steelers - W 31-19
Week 2 @ Atlanta Falcons - L 27-21
Week 3 Vs Houston Texans - L 31-25
Week 4 Vs Oakland Raiders - W 37-6
Week 5 Vs New England - L 31-21
Week 6 Vs San Diego - W 35-24
Week 7 BYE WEEK
Week 8 Vs New Orleans - W 34-14
Week 9 vs Cincinnati - W 31-23
That isn't too impressive in my eyes. The games they were truly tested in were the games they lost. The only notable win they have there was against the Steelers in Week 1 and that was in Denver. The Steelers are also a different team now than they were back then.
If Peyton Manning truly were playing at an MVP level, he would have been able to pull out wins against the Texans and Falcons where they only lost by 1 TD. In the Atlanta game, the Broncos didn't score at all in the 4th Quarter and Manning threw 3 picks. In the game against Houston, Manning threw 2 TDs in the 4th Quarter, but didn't throw a single TD in the first 3 Quarters and Matt Prater kicked two FGs of 23 and 32 yards which means they couldn't get it done in the Red Zone. In my eyes, those losses should hurt Manning's chances at MVP. He has the Comeback Player of the Year award locked up right now, but he is FAR from being the MVP in my book.
He also has probably the EASIEST remaining schedule in the NFL
Week 10 @ Carolina Panthers
Week 11 Vs San Diego Chargers
Week 12 @ Kansas City Chiefs
Week 13 Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 14 @ Oakland Raiders
Week 15 @ Baltimore Ravens
Week 16 Vs Cleveland Browns
Week 17 Vs Kansas City Chiefs
I would have said Baltimore would be the only test there, but they have clearly suffered without Ray Lewis and Ladarius Webb and Joe Flacco hasn't stepped up when the team needs him (surprise, surprise). There aren't any legitimate playoff teams there and they play 4 out of 8 games against teams who are currently slated to pick in the Top 5 of the 2013 Draft.
Sorry if this seems a little vindictive or makes me out to be a hater, but it gets on my nerves when someone gets more attention than those more deserving based on name recognition and reputation (and before you start with the shots on Troy Polamalu, I will agree that he has gotten his fair share of that kind of treatment).
