I've created a new thread to talk about what's going in our offseason.
First, biggest piece of news has less to do with Manning and more to do with Miller. It is pretty much inevitable that Miller will sign a big, long term contract with the Broncos, but it is taking longer than I'd hoped for that to happen. If the deal doesn't get done by Tuesday, the Broncos will have to use the franchise tag on him to ensure he doesn't hit the open market. If that is the case, which looks most likely at this point, we will not be able to use the tag on Malik Jackson, who is also poised to cash in this year if he hits the open market.
Miller's tag fee is $14.1 million, which is a bargain for arguably the best defensive player in the league right now, and he will want to get a deal done as soon as possible so that he can get paid what he deserves. The fact that Manning is taking so long to announce his retirement is a bit of a problem, because there is a lot of money in his name that we could be using to sign guys like Jackson, Osweiler, Trevathan and Marshall.
There is talk that Clady and Ware are being approached with restructuring deals to free up some more cap space to try and hang on to a few key members of our defence.

It is sounding likely that Osweiler is going to test the market. Reports say the team was willing to offer him around $10 million a year while his camp believes they can get closer to $16 million. The sides are too far apart to come to any agreement, so the team will let him test free agency. If he gets the offers his camp is valuing him at, Denver will have to decide if they want to spend that kind of money on him.
It also sounds likely that Malik Jackson, Danny Trevathan and Ronnie Hillman will also hit free agency. Jackson and Trevathan upped their stock so much over the last few years and Denver doesn't have the money to pay them what they are worth right now. Hillman isn't really worth resigning at this point. There are many talented FA's out there with more upside than Hillman. CJ anderson is an RFA whom we will most likely resign, and we have Thompson who can help out if needed, but we will likely find a back to split carries with CJ in the draft or possible someone like Arian Foster or Alfred Morris. There has been a lot of talk about Foster coming back to coach Kubiak, where he would fit well in the zone blocking scheme.
There is still no word on Ware or Clady restructuring. Clady could be released if he does not opt to restructure, as his cap hit is massive but he has had trouble staying healthy over the last three years. Paying a question mark that much money is dangerous when funds are tight.
As it stands, our biggest needs are Guard, Center, Inside Linebacker, Defensive Line and Running Back. Whether its through resigning our own free agents or picking up a few available veterans, most of our biggest needs will likely be covered through free agency. I expect the draft to be used mostly to fill in the depth chart where needed. Though we may try to find a starting offensive lineman in the first or second round.
I expect us to find depth at OL, TE, WR and S through the middle to late rounds of the draft.
I have no idea what will happen at QB if Osweiler tests FA and leaves. I don't forsee a push to move up in the draft for one of the top QB's and I don't think any of the top 4 guys will be around by pick 31. I guess a mediocre game manager like Fitzpatrick would be good enough for now, as long as our defence stays at the top of their game. That's about all we had last year at QB and we still won it all. But I would like to us find someone that we can groom to be more than just a game manager who tries not to lose games for us.

The other thread turned into the troll Manning thread and I wanted to get away from that. I've notice that you have since removed "Peyton Manning" from the title, which is good... but let's let an actual Bronco's fan run the Bronco's thread...
PS. I eat knuckle sandwhiches for dinner.

Hate that an unproven QB can go get himself a 10mil a year contract this easily. Don't get me wrong in limited time Osweiler looked good. But 10 million a year for a young QB who has started all of 7 games.. Fuck the QB market is stupid. And they think he can get 16 million.. Like err! Why would you want to pay an unproven commodity over 10% of your cap!
Good for him if he gets it, I just really think the boom or bust factor here could really destroy a team. It's one thing to go pay a guy like Eli Manning or Tony Romo a bunch of money, at the very least you know you have a quality starter and you are doing what you have to to keep them. But to pay a guy who may or may not be any good that much..

I don't think Osweiler is worth even $10 million, but these QB's get that market by the balls. It's tough to find a qualified starting QB, so if a guy even resembles a qualified starter, he can demand an absurd salary and some desperate team will pay for it.

www.9news.com/sports/broncos-quarterback-peyton-manning-retires/70523281Manning will retire. I can't say I'm surprised or upset. He was great with us for a few years but over the last year and a half he has shown that he doesn't have much left in the tank. Farewell to one of the all time greats of the game. Let's please not turn this thread into a discussion about Manning. He was a Bronco and he retired, so I am reporting it. If you want to bash his career, start a thread somewhere else or go find one of the 50 other ones already in existence. In other news, Broncos reportedly offer Osweiler $45 million over three years. I think the price tag is very high for him there, but considering what else is out there the Broncos don't have much choice. Brock already knows the system and started 7 games last year, so he has some chemistry with many of our players already. Apparently the contract offer has several incentives in there as well as part of the $45 million, which is good news if he takes it. He's worth $15 million a year if he performs well, but he's still a big risk at this point for that money. The big question is whether or not he'll take the deal. He's probably able to make more money somewhere else, but nowhere else can you find a QB opening for a team as good as Denver. Anywhere else he goes (except maybe Houston or NYJ) he would have to expect several years of building before becoming a real contender. The team is still talking about trying to resign Jackson, and restructure contracts for Ware and Clady. We'll see what happens.
