Why do they call it soccer? Do you punch girls? Fun fact... The name soccer originated in England. There were many different sports named Football and so eventually some people defined them better. For example there was Rugby Football and Association Football. The Brits liked adding 'er' on the end of proper names as a sort of slang, so they could go play Rugger or Assoccer. Eventually it just became Soccer, which was the slang for Association Football. The upper class groups started referring to it is Soccer while the lower and middle classes just called it Football. Since the lower and middle classes are by far the majority, the name Football caught on there, but in other places in the world where they have other versions of football as well, like North America and Australia, the term soccer is more widely used. But I do play co-ed soccer and there are some guys who play really aggressive and I have seen girls get punched in the face. If I'm playing against those guys, I will generally make sure they finish the game with some soreness. If they are on my team they will hear about how unacceptable that is.
