This is quite simply a list of player I think the Redskins should target and to what degree. They have roughly 21.5 mil in cap room.
QB - None, simply no reason
RB - None, even less of a reason
WR - Do not need a #1 like some people seem to like to insist. I'd be happy with a quality 2nd or slot guy.
- Andre Roberts - Moderate
- Golden Tate - Cautionary (Candidate to be overpaid but could be a solid pickup if he is not)
- Dexter McCluster - Mild
- Santana Moss - Mild
- Wish this market was better...
TE - No need but anyway
- Anthony McCoy - Mild
OT - Need an RT
- Breno Giacomini - Moderate
- Austin Howard - Moderate
- Eric Winston - Moderate
- Jason Fox - Mild
OG/C - Quite the patchwork bunch as it has been the last 4 years. Needs to be bigger all 3 spots should be replaced but that's unreasonable.
- Evan Dietrich-Smith - Strong
- Ryan Wendell - Strong
- Uche Nwanari - Moderate
- Phil Costa - Near-Moderate
NT/DE - NT is set, DE is anything but, there's enough for 1 serviceable DE.
- Arthur Jones - Strong
- Alex Carrington - Strong
- Red Bryant - Moderate
- Clinton McDonald - Moderate
OLB - Need for Depth
- Rob Jackson - Cautionary
- Frank Zombo - Mild
ILB - There's two needs here.
- Perry Riley - Strong
- Arthur Moats - Moderate
- Kavell Connor - Mild
- Pat Angerer - Mild
CB - Hall just came off a good season but he should be a #2, Amerson needs to develop and a chance, complicated situation, prefer not to buy a #1, prefer to deal with in draft mostly
- Will Blackmon - Moderate
- Corey Graham - Moderate
- Walter Thurmond III - Moderate
- Captain Munnerlyn - Moderate
- Dereck Cox - Mild
S - Strongly need 2 safeties here, desperately, may have to live with 2 moderately good ones and draft.
- James Ihedigbo - Strong
- Mike Mitchell - Strong
- Chris Clemons - Strong
- Antoine Bethea - Moderate
- Major Wright - Mild
- Steve Gregory - Mild
- Stevie Brown - Mild
- Yeremiah Bell - Mild
In some ways the amount of interest is relative to their expected market. A mild on a bigger name means staying out of biding wars and not at the cost of players with higher interest levels. As can be seen by anyone there are a lot of needs on this team, particularly on defense. If the money was there, adding a top end S, a serviceable S, a #2 CB, 2 serviceable ILB, a depth OLB, a DE, a C, a OG, a RT, and a WR, would be ideal but of course 21 mil will not pay 10 guys. 21 mil with a draft will not bring in 10 guys.
Ideally we can sign 2 really solid players (Dietrich-Smith and Arthur Smith), and two servicable cheap players (Steve Gregory and Perry Riley) as much as I wish more could be done it does not look like it. Maybe if we could move one of the really solid players into 2 more sevicable ones it may well be worth it, for example (Arthur Jones into Arthur Moats and Alex Carrington).
