Titans President and undisputed king Tommy Smith has announced that Jake Locker is expected to be the unquestioned starter at the beginning of the 2014 season. He continued to add that "Ken [Whisenhunt] is good for Jake", insinuating that the two are linked at that Whisenhunt was brought in to develop Jake Locker and not find a starting quarterback via free agency or the draft. Although Ken Wisenhunt has not yet commented on the realise, it's common thought that Smith would not have spoken up of Coach Ken didn't agree. What does this mean? - The Titans aren't going to be drafting a starting QB this year. They may however, draft a backup after the complete incompetence of Ryan Fitzpatrick. - Chris Johnson is gone. This statement indicates to me that if Jake Locker continues to improve, then the Titans will sign his 2015 option which would eliminate any possibility that the Titans could even afford Chris Johnson, even if they wanted him. - Big changes are coming for the Titans roster. Smith also confirmed that GM Ruston Webster "wouldn't have a collar on him" in FA. - Jake Locker's surgery to repair the lisfranc injury in his foot was successful. Smith wouldn't commit to an injured QB. I love not only this news, but the forthrightness that the new Titans brass displays. Why is his 5th year not being picked up?

Morkim5th year option is a VERY expense measure especially for QBs. The Titans expect that they would lose too much money to keep one more year on his rookie deal. Basically it means "this is your year to prove you are the franchise QB. If not, you're a free agent." They will resign him if he meets expectations.
