Reports are flooding out of the Titans organization that Chris Johnson is almost certainly going to be cut, and that the Titans won't extend Jake Locker's contract through 2015, making him a free agent this offseason. Mike Munchak is also "coaching for his job", which isn't going to fucking work when the organization tells everyone that the starting runningback and quarterback are guaranteed to be out this season.
Locker seemed to finally hit his stride early in the year, dominating every opponent he faced and leading the Titans to a 3-1 record over three AFC playoff contenders in Pittsburgh, San Diego, and the Jets. Since then Locker has battled injuries and been less effective even when healthy. He's basically had an exaggerated version of 2012, succeeding tremendously when healthy but not being able to stay that way.
However, instead of logically resigning him to compete with another option at quarterback, the Titans are listening to their idiotic fanbase and scrapping the entire system. That same fanbase has been, and still are, clamoring for Vince Young and Tim Tebow to be the starting quarterback.
As far as not picking up Chris Johnson's 11 million dollar salary in 2014, where the fuck else is that money going to be spent? Our highest paid players after Locker and CJ next year (assuming Britt is also gone) are Alteraun Verner, Jurrell Casey, and Bernard Pollard. None of them are likely to be signed for over 3 million per year. So.... what the fuck are we going to do with the rest? Make the biggest free-agent push of all time? I don't get how we could spend our money any better than Chris Johnson, even if he is inconsistent.
Some are speculating that we will sign Jay Cutler, and underachieving QB that we failed to draft instead of Vince Young seven years ago. Back to the drawing board? Why wouldn't we draft a top QB in a class that is still looking very strong? If we sign Cutler, maybe we can wait and use a late pick on Zach Mettenberger, my second favorite QB of this whole class, even with the injury.
The bottom line is that the Titans are fucked yet again because of bad choices by the front office and the coaching staff, and know we're digging an even deeper whole.
