When he was cut last season, I was glad to be done with the conversation, but bringing him back got me thinking. Nobody expects him to push for the starting job, and in this case it might be a good thing. At the start of last season I remember hearing the stories from training camp about Portis helping Wilson study the playbook. They would go over every formation, every defense against each formation, blocking schemes, and so on just about every spare minute they had. Then toward the middle to the end of the season, we heard about Flynn being no help at all. Flynn wasn't a problem so to speak, but wasm't much of a team player.
Without a doubt we took a step back as far as the backup QB goes, but it might help the starter take a step forward.

I don't mind the Portis signing. I know I have only seen him in the preseason from a couple years ago, but I remember his play style was similar to what Wilson was last year. I know he isn't as good as Wilson, but if your #2 QB has to come in, you might as well already be used to how he plays.
On the other hand, I can't stand the signing of Brady Quinn. I would rather have Michael Robinson as our back up QB than to have Brady Quinn even in a position where there is the slightest possibility that he would be taking snaps as a Seahawk. Couldn't stand him in college, thought he was over rated coming into the NFL and he has been actually worse than I thought he would be. I really want to take a late round QB now and let Quinn go.
