When the Jermon Bushrod signing was confirmed, there was an overwhelming, positive reaction from Bears fans. A two-time Pro-Bowler to protect Cutler's blind-side? This sounds like it could be too good to be true; in my mind it was. PFF went into a deeper focus on this (https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/03/13/jermon-bushrod-upgrade-or-side-step/), but the summation of this article is that we brought in someone that provides the same things that J'Marcus Webb provides. Beyond the 2011 season, Bushrod has been merely a mediocre starting left tackle.
Sure, his sacks-allowed numbers look a little more promising, but let us remember that Brees has the quickest release in the NFL. As a Bears-fan, I have to be VERY worried about the health of Jay Cutler and even more worried with the financial commitment we've made to Jermon Bushrod.

I would second this being a mediocre signing.. aside from the fact that I am immature and and giggle whenever I hear or read his name tehe.. Bushrod.. However with that said here is hoping it is an upgrade, because I still believe Cutler could be a top QB if he had an O-line.

Cutler is immensely talented, but him not being dead is a minor miracle.

Bushrod is the best LT we've had in a decade. I dont care how much we got him for.

Bushrod is the best LT we've had in a decade. I dont care how much we got him for. I care in the sense that Sam Baker was cheaper. 35m for a side-step is a LOT of money. He is not significantly better than Webb, or at all. In metrics and actually watching him play: good run blocker, atrocious pass blocker.

It's just... it's not an upgrade, so it's a waste of cap space. I have thought about it, measured it every way I could, and it's just not something that I enjoy seeing.
