Fireman Ed has been the signature fan/mascot of the New York Jets for years, but he now says he is hanging up the fire hat and has quit his job as Fireman Ed.
He said to NFL.com, ""Listen, I went through the Rich Kotite era -- we were 4-28 in that era. Any Jets fan knows this isn't the worst of times; it isn't close," Anzalone said, "It's been about the nastiness. I just think society in general -- you're out in your car there's no respect at all. I don't want to put up with that from people taking it out on me anymore."
Ed will still attend home games, but he will not lead the J-E-T-S chants anymore and move to a different section.

He said in the article it wasn't the play that did it; the Jets had been in worse shape than this before. He said it was the people, the crowd, the attitudes---I'll have to find and post the whole article.
Still disappointing. Don't like the Jets, but I love Fireman Ed.

It kind of makes me proud that it was the Patriots that put him over the top. I think big changes are coming for the Jets. 1. Rex Ryan needs to go 2. Sanchez needs to go 3. Tebow needs to go 4. Jets should draft Barkley or Geno 5. They need to hire a good coach (not necessarily Gruden, but a guy that doesn't spend all his energy on one side of the field)
